🏡 A beautifully presented Sussex Granary in a tranquil rural setting, adjacent to the South Downs and two miles from the historic market town of Arundel.

Some snaps of the before and after…

The Sussex Granary as it was until its new lease of life started in Jan ‘24

The outside wood was rotten so we replaced it with the floor joists that came up (we reused where we could)

The old massive window replaced with a Juliet balcony to take in that stunning sunset view 🌅

The corners of the granary became the kitchen and the main bedroom

And the south facing window that became a window seat overlooking the pond and the fields 😍

A year and a bit on and I can’t quite believe we did it!

And we’ve learnt loads in the first year of our holiday let business….and glad to say we have been pretty solidly booked 🥂🎉🙌

We’ve been blessed with fantastic guests who’ve loved their experience staying with us 😍

Roll on year 2, and much smaller projects in our own Barn I’m pleased to say 😆

Beautiful crisp and frosty mornings over the last couple of days - we’ve seen -4
Brrrr 🥶

Thankfully no problem for the client who’s enjoying the toasty underfloor heating in the granary 🙌

If only that were the case in our barn…alas we have draughty floor boards, but thankfully a wood burner 🪵🔥🙌

The pond is looking beautiful and autumnal with this carpet of leaves on it 🍁🍂🌿 albeit on top of the pond algae 🤦‍♀️

It’s such a beautiful day (and it’s my birthday eve!) so we’re out in the garden making a start on getting some into the old cow yard!

Lots of stones and rubble already, just in this little patch!

Throwback to the last year, can’t believe where we were compared to now…

It was such a pressured chapter but so many lessons learnt and loving the finished result 🥰

I had every intention of sharing the journey but time and priorities n’ all that 🤦‍♀️

Biggest headache, aside the budget, was the f’in taps!

Love ‘em though…we chose in the end…🥰

Despite the challenges, would 💯 do it all again 🤦‍♀️😂 would you?

ALL THE FEELS ON A MONDAY MORNING…🥰

Yep, there was a little tear!

Our Guests checked out this morning after a 3 night stay and wrote these lovely comments in the visitors book 📙

AND gave us this bottle of Chablis 🙏

I was so touched by their kindness 💕

They also stopped by our door for a quick chat before heading home and one of the things they said…

‘It’s so beautiful and you should be really proud of yourself’

🎉 🍾🥳

I’ll take that 🥰🙏

I used to be so house proud until I got married, got a dog and bought a barn on an old farmyard 😂

Think mud, dust, cobwebs, grass cuttings, dog hair…ALL THE TIME!

But not where the granary is concerned!

This is my new house proud outlet!

I do also have hobbies…😂

THE OLD WINCH

…is now in its new home 🏡

Before and after…

The original pic was where the winch was located when it was a working granary, and the trap door was underneath these cork floor tiles.

The en-suite is now here!

We tried to incorporate it into the building itself but it just wouldn’t fit anywhere that was going to be safe - it has a huge handle!

These pics are from when Chris did his first bachelor pad renovation when he was in his 20’s!

Now we’ve secured it to the wall in the indoor/outdoor area.

Eventually we’ll have an outdoor sofa here and the blankets will be on the winch!

PART TWO COMPLETE!

We now have a Victorian looking metal garden table with legs attached and I’m so happy 🙌

This was such a risky purchase as the legs had been sheared off…

But we took the plunge, cleaned it up and have now managed to find a welder to attach the legs to the table top!

We’ve lost a chair along the way so we only have 5 but given we can only accommodate 4 in the granary, that works!

Thanks to hubby for his patience on this project, but it’ll all be worth it in the end!

Spray painting next when it warms up and there is time in the diary!

TAKE A PEEK INTO THE LIVING SPACE…

4. Me taking a moment in the sunny window seat (this is my favourite spot - I’ve only sat here three times 😢and once was for this shoot! It’s just not enough!

5. The fancy pants TV that goes up and down into the wall with a remote 🥳

This was an after thought because we ended up having to change things because of building regs. We then realised that other walls were just too far away 🤦‍♀️ I didn’t even want a TV in there but everyone told us we needed one!

6. Our visitors book from a girl group who had the best time here and visiting the beautiful historic town of 🙌

7. The lovely old bottles we found whilst digging around the foundations, and most recently the pond!

8. Our most recent purchase of a record player (with Bluetooth) and some vinyl. We had a guest stay who worked in luxury hotels who gave us the tip! 🙏

9. Looking back into the living area with the bedroom and ensuite behind and mezzanine stairs to the left.

My question to you is…

Would you prefer the sunny window seat with a coffee, or the sunset view with a glass of fizz?!

Or both?!😂

👀 SEE THE GARDEN 🪴

Sharing the pics from our photo shoot and here is our rustic garden!

You can see the stone circle from where the horse used to grind the wheat 🌾

Now used for a firepit and s’mores, weather depending of course!

Still stuff to be done of course, including restoring some garden furniture 🪑

Flowers to plant and put on the gates but waiting for those dry days 🙏

I love the way the granary is captured through our fallen oak tree from the bench near the pond.
