Youlgreave - a half an hour drive from Ashbourne. Take in the scenic views as you drive and then have a lovely walk by the river which also has a designated swimming spot. A spot of lunch was had at Peak Feast where all the food is vegetarian A fab day out 😊

The perfect place to cool off 💦😍 Did you know that the Peak District village of Hathersage is home to an open air swimming pool?! 💧

Surrounded by stunning views at the heart of the Dark Peak, it’s the perfect place to soak up the scenery (and get some lengths in too!) 🏊🏼‍♂️👌

A great walk for the weekend at Middleton Top on the High Peak Trail where you could walk to Cromford or just enjoy the scenery if you choose to walk the more flatter part of the trail. Middleton Top is all about the incline and how they used to pull the trains up it so they could continue there journey it’s well worth the walk but coming back up gets the heart pumping 😆There is a small cafe here with toilets and after your walk it is only a short drive to explore Wirksworth 😊

SAVE THE DATE : SATURDAY 16th NOVEMBER 2024.
See Ashbourne come to life with sparkling Christmas illuminations as a special guest (TBA) accompanies the Mayor of Ashbourne Cllr. Sandra Spencer and Consort Cllr. Martin Spencer to turn on the Christmas lights at 5:30pm on Saturday 16th November in the Market Place.
Festive music and entertainment commence from 4.00pm and street entertainers will be on hand to delight everyone. Santa and his Elves are this year’s theme and the man himself is bringing elf acrobats, hula hoopers, bouncy stilt walkers, LED selfie frame and elf candy cane girls distributing free candy canes to children as the perfect opener to the festive season. A Christmas Craft Fair will be in the upper ballroom of the Town Hall from 10am till 6pm purveying hand made Christmas themed gifts. The Ashbourne Historical Centre will remain open till 6.00pm and will provide live Christmas music by Forte.
Master of Ceremonies for the event will be John Haynes of Dove Radio who will be playing your Christmas favourites.
All are invited to assemble around the Christmas tree on the Market Place ready for the big light up at 5.30pm but are welcome to savour the festive atmosphere in the Market Place from 4.00pm. The Market Place will be closed to the public for parking.

Did you know there are over 200 miles of traffic free cycle trails to explore in Derbyshire? 🚲

The scenic Monsal Trail (pictured) runs for 8.5 miles from Bakewell to Chee Dale and crosses the spectacular Monsal Viaduct along the way 🌳

The scenic route follows a former railway line and offers easy cycling for all abilities with stunning views of Peak District countryside 🍃 It’s also accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs too!

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can enjoy refreshments and hire a bike at Hassop Station Cafe 🚴☕️

Plus, it’s easier than ever to access the trail using public transport on the Stagecoach Peak Sightseer bus service! 🚌

Had a lovely meal at The Bowling Green. This is about 15 mins walk from our cottage, a bit of a walk up the hill from Ashbourne but it’s all downhill on the way home 😁

Just a few pics of Tissington village where we had a great walk today. Minutes from Ashbourne, with tea room and craft shops to entice. Payable parking which is on the Tissington trail too, a great way to support some small businesses and get some steps in 😃.

It’s a great walk on the Tissington trail the weather is crisp and dry and hopefully staying that way for a bit. Chatsworth and Bakewell are only 45 mins from Heather Cottage. We had a lovely day walking there and eating ice cream. From there we visited two local breweries and .taproom both have excellent beers to take with you and at Thornbridge you can drink with a Pizza ! (which I can recommend and are very good 😊) if you are tired out after your adventures you can always taste the local ales from Have a great weekend!
