Thought I’d share something special. Earlier this summer we had the pleasure of retreating to the glorious Beechenhill Farm to write and rehearse with The Gigspanner Big Band. It’s the perfect place for a group of musicians, because as well as a wonderful barn, there are several holiday cottages so you can stay on site.

We had the whole family along with us, our girls Rosa and Joni had a fab time playing with and their Grandma while we rehearsed. They were extremely taken with , who as well as being an incredible hostess, is a wonderful artist. One day, a pigeon got lost inside our holiday cottage, and the incident was of course very exciting for Rosa and Joni. Their new friend Sue immortalised the episode in this beautiful painting that we now treasure and are very honoured to have!

If you’d like to hear the music we were working on at Beechenhill, join the GBB on our autumn tour. We will be recording every gig, in order to make the album, so you’ll be immortalised too (in a low pressure, silent-audience-presence kind of a way 😁)

Accessible for all - including those with wheelchairs! (and pushchairs) The Cottage by the Pond is getting booked up for next ! It sleeps up to six in three bedrooms (zip and link beds so you choose- singles or superking) and a profiling bed. It has two bathrooms; a big wheelchair accessible one and a little Jack and Jill ensuite. Sit outside in the spring sunshine next year!! ☀️

And also how interesting 🧐 just across the valley…

Wetton Mill, Manifold Valley, about 1920. The present mill building dates from 1711, built by the Duke of Devonshire to replace an earlier mill. In 1974 a cave shelter was excavated in the area, and flints were found from the Mesolithic period. These finds are currently housed in Buxton Museum. Today, it is a popular spot on the Manifold Trail. from the collections of Leek Library.

Okeover Hall, September 1939. he hall is the home of the Okeover family. The west wing and part of the east wing are Georgian, built in about 1745-1760 to designs by Joseph Sanderson. In 1953-1960 the south wing and rest of the east wing were rebuilt by the architects Marshall Sisson. All Saints church dates from the 14th century and was restored by George Gilbert Scott 1856-1868. Maintenance of our historic buildings is a really important part of sharing lovely Beechenhill Farm with guests. Here is Farmer Terry up his scaffolding replacing a cracked tile and doing some flashing! (lead sheets that protect the join between the wall and roof) ❤👍
