Our Story
Dove Farm is the perfect venue for a get-together. A natural meeting place with that home from home feeling. Its central UK location makes it the ideal choice for gatherings, meetings, reunions and retreats. Three holiday cottages and separate dining space are situated on the family farm, in the village of Ellastone. Dove farm is right on the border of Staffordshire and Derbyshire, where the river Dove marks the boundary. Wonderful riverside walks from the farm gate. 5 miles from Ashbourne, the gateway to Dovedale and the picturesque Peak District beyond; 7 miles from Uttoxeter, and just 4 miles from Alton Towers Resort. We have created an informal, versatile country venue, on our family farm. Three self catering cottages and a communal space for dining, celebrations or meetings, this little gem of a place, is ideal for gatherings of all kinds. Perfectly poised with its central UK location, Dove Farm and Dove Farm Cottages are a natural meeting place. The cottages are mainly ground floor. Only 2 bedrooms are upstairs. Everywhere else, including the studio dining room and patio garden, are all on one level, with no steps. Suitable for elderly guests and young children and guests with limited mobility. More information over at http://www.dovefarm.co.uk Cottages and studio room together make a flexible and versatile retreat venue or a quirky yet comfortable venue for residential workshops - business, writers, self development, arts and crafts, photography etc. The dove studio room may be hired separately on a day or half day basis, or you can enjoy exclusive use of whole complex for day events, using cottages as break-out space. Overnight accommodation can be booked if required. Dove farm cottages specialises in short breaks for family and friends groups, special occasions and weekend breaks for groups. Midweek short breaks for families. Perfect for visiting Alton Towers, just 4 miles away. Dove Farm is located on the edge of the Peak District, on the border of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. These holiday cottages are only 4 miles from Alton Towers. Midweek deals and offers all year round. A small and exclusive fly fishing club has been re-established at the farm. This is unstocked, sensitively managed wild fishing, with fish returned to the water. This stretch of the river is abundant with wild brown trout, rainbows, and grayling. Salmon are making a welcome comeback. We have been delighted to help them on their journey upstream, through our involvement in a renewable energy project; resulting in a hydro electric turbine and a fish pass on the weir.
Dove farm is our family farm. You will love meeting our farm pets, but remember, we are a working farm too, so there will be the day to day sights and sounds that come with with a mix of agricultural enterprises: The home farm here at Ellastone, is mainly down to grass - for grazing, and for making hay and silage. Arable ground, mainly wheat and barley, is largely located elsewhere. There is a small flock of pedigree ryeland sheep at dove farm, and a small herd of pedigree golden guernsey goats.
