Did you know Sri Lanka was where TMR began? After visiting some wildlife programmes that were not entirely ethical, our sea turtle conservation programme was set up with the aim to conserve and protect sea turtles in a truly ethical way. After working with members of the local community we then set up our Kindergarten, offering free childcare in the village and later expanded to our teaching, medical and street dog programmes. Sri Lanka is now our most popular destination and we host hundreds of volunteers each year 🤝 💚

🇹🇭 "I signed up for 2 weeks volunteering at the Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand through the Mighty
Roar. It was unlike anything I had ever done before and was the most incredible experience of my
life! The support I received from the Mighty Roar was amazing, with swift replies to any questions I
had whilst planning my trip and constant reassurance whenever I needed it when feeling
apprehensive about my first alone, abroad trip.

I think my favourite memories from this experience were taking the elephants for their daily walks and getting to know the locals who worked there. We played a particularly fun game of
football ‘mahouts vs volunteers’! So got to know the staff very well. Another fond memory was waking up before sunrise to watch the oldest elephant at the sanctuary take her morning swim in the lake! Truly magical!

My time at the sanctuary was absolutely incredible. I loved meeting people from all over the
world! There were roughly 70 other volunteers at the foundation - not all working on the Elephant zones but on other wildlife areas too as there are plenty of other animals there! I made friends with most people - its hard not to when you’re working all day everyday with them - and as
everyone is so like minded it was super easy to get along with them and enjoy the work together. I hope to visit the close fiends I made during my time there - even if they are all from different
countries all over the world!

I am so grateful to the Mighty Roar for making this experience so easy to get involved with and their constant support throughout from start to finish! Thank you so much!"

🇳🇦 "I volunteered for 2 weeks at the Namibia wildlife sanctuary and reserve. From the very start I had great communication with The Mighty Roar team keeping me up to date with what was needed and answering all my queries quickly .

My time volunteering started when I was greeted swiftly at the airport on arrival, I was able to meet other volunteers in the transport which really helped with settling in and making friends.
During the programme the activities ranged day to day from helping with reserve maintenance to cuddling the baby baboons, no day was the same. My favourite activities were doing research on the reserve as it allowed us to learn about all the different tracks and we also helped by putting new cameras up to track cheetahs.

The highlight of my trip was the horseback riding. Being able to get up close to the giraffes and zebras was an experience I will never forget.

Throughout my stay I stayed in a shared 3 man tent with an attached toilet and shower only a five minute walk from the communal area. It provided me with a nice way to meet new friends. There was over 40 plus volunteers during my stay with a range of ages and people all over the world, some were solo travellers, families, friends. It’s an amazing way to meet open minded people that want to help make a difference."

🇿🇦"After a lot of research, I chose to volunteer at Amakhala for 2 weeks and I am SO glad I did - it was a dream trip and even better than I could have imagined!

Everything was straightforward when I arrived in South Africa with airport pickup. I also really loved that TMR had a Facebook group for volunteers so before my trip I could chat with some of the other girls who were volunteering at the same time as me. I definitely recommend doing this - it was so nice arriving at the accommodation in South Africa feeling like I already knew a few people!

The two weeks I had in South Africa were beyond anything I could have dreamed of. The local team were incredible. They were so knowledgeable, super friendly and easy to chat with - they made the experience so memorable and so much fun.

There was also the BEST bunch of volunteers during my two weeks. You definitely don't need to worry about travelling solo because you'll make so many new friends!

The whole experience at Amakhala was something I'll never forget. During my two weeks, I learnt so much, ticked a ton off the bucket list and made amazing friends. It was definitely an eye-opening experience and more of an adventure than your typical vacation but that's what made it so unforgettable. We got to experience so much more than we would have done on a regular safari holiday.. I would definitely recommend doing something like this over booking a normal safari any day!

🇹🇭"I signed up to do Teaching in Thailand, because I’ve always wanted to devote my life into something bigger than myself and I love working with kids. The TMR support team was very helpful and replied quickly to all my questions which was reassuring.

The day of my departure I got a text saying who was picking me up from the airport with a picture. What made the programme so incredible was who I met there , the other volunteers were incredibly welcoming and involved me in all their plans , when I wasn’t teaching I travelled the country. Thailand is full of a lot of opportunities , in my free time I visited lots of beaches and I swam with elephants as well as tried different foods and went clubbing etc.

There was 7 of us for the entirety of my stay and we are all still in contact. I cannot give one of my favourite memories because I made so many. I loved teaching the kids and creating a bond with them I cried when I came home. I swam with elephants and swam under waterfalls .I cannot thank TMR for the opportunity it gave me so Thank you !"

🌍 NEW EUROPEAN DESTINATION 🌍

Attention dog lovers! We have an exciting new dog sanctuary program in beautiful Romania 🇷🇴 that needs your support.

Spend your days surrounded by dogs and assist a dedicated team working tirelessly to reduce the number of stray dogs on the streets of Romania. You'll help care for over 200 dogs currently residing at the sanctuary, restoring their health and preparing them for their forever homes.

Outside of volunteering there is so much to explore - visit waterfalls, mountains and historical sites or just relax and take in the scenery overlooking the river Danube ⛰️ 🌲

🇬🇷 "I spent an incredible 2 weeks in Greece this Summer with the aim of conserving the sea grass and sand dunes on the coast of Kefalonia! It was a very easy and straightforward
application process with TMR that left me feeling well-informed and ready to take on
whatever challenges lay ahead of me once I arrived in Greece!

We were given a variety of tasks to do during the programme, including snorkel surveys, beach cleaning and drone surveys. And during my free time, me and my friends explored the island, experienced the local culture (and of course ice cream) and often went wild turtle spotting! It was an experience that I’ll never forget and will likely return to in the near future, and I’ve made so many friends that I’m still in touch with even though I’m back home now!
