Sad to see Quercus 'Adams Fiat Uno' is no more at Wallington NT today 😩
An 18yr old NT Careership apprentice once opened up the garden, checked the lake overflow, accelerated then looked down to put his seat belt on and his black Fiat Uno became part of the tree in 1999...

Nacreous clouds over Northumberland this morning and at the solstice sunset...amazing!

Superb amount of flowers on this native common ivy (Hedera helix).
On a cold November day last week in County Durham, it was alive with hoverflies and other insects feeding on its much needed autumnal nectar.

In NT Cragside Victorian land of giants pinetum yesterday, then the Aurora at Newbiggin...Steve was overhead too but I thought it was from an aircraft!! 🤣

Great afternoon at Alnwick Garden for a garden party...amazing to see how well it's maturing compared to the first time I visited for a tour when it was a building site!
And the Cornus kousa is looking superb too...

Being from the Mediterranean and purpose built for dry weather, this flower on the globe artichoke (Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus) was thriving in the recent hot weather at Otterburn.
Back to normal now, but it was 38 degrees at 11am 😩

15.30 this afternoon and it was 29 degrees in Otterburn, in the shade!
Reminded me of my time Helpxing and travelling around Europe for a few years...here's one from Portugal of me watering the garden😁

A busy week working away near Barnard Castle, then calling in to see some fantastic veteran parkland trees in a great garden ready to be awoken from it's slumber in County Durham, before seeing the Trachycarpus fortunei beginning to flower in the garden at Otterburn.

Wisteria time in Northumberland...this one in a clients garden is the best I've ever seen it flower. Amazing scent too!

Fritillaria meleagris, the snake's head fritillary, looking superb in the riverside meadow at Otterburn...

One of my all time favourites of Autumn, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, planted earlier this year in a clients garden.
With it's fantastic scent of burnt sugar filling the air and reaching 30 to 40 metres in its native Japan and China, it's a true gem.

A fine early autumnal morning looking over Aster, Rudbeckia, Verbena and Anemone towards the coast of SE Northumberland
