Tuesday 10th December.

Another sublime winter day in the Cairngorms.

Today I was guiding on my first winter course this season. Carol, Gordon & Ian booked a day of snowshoeing several weeks ago in preparation for their Alpine snowshoeing holiday in Italy next February. Booking in advance for one day on any winter course is not guaranteed any kind of superb weather or snow conditions. Just by shear chance they hit the jackpot. You couldn't have asked for a better day. Same has yesterday's superb conditions of blue skies, wall to wall sun, no breeze and views to die for.

The snowpack at all levels is frozen solid. Not ideal for snowshoeing but hey, I don't think anyone was complaining! Mastering snowshoe techniques involves all kinds of snow conditions anyway so it was all good training for the groups first taste of big footing in the hills.

Everyone went away with big smiles.

Saturday 14th December.

Today I was guiding Noud & Jasper from Holland. After the glorious weather in the early part of the week we had a proper Cairngorms day. Poor visibility & a stiff westerly breeze with with lots of well frozen snow at all levels.

The two friends travelled all the way from Holland for a good day out in the Cairngorms and they chose Tarmachan Mountaineering for their adventure.

We had a nice walk I to Coire an Lochain where the top of Cairn Lochan briefly cleared so nice views. We then walked the Northern Corries route and finished on Cairn Gorm. Along the way the guys got some great crampon and axe tuition. We also discussed some navigation and avalanche awareness. We actually had a wee chat with the Cairngorms SAIS observer who was in the Corrie and doing their snow pit up at the twin burns area.

Top day out and nice to get some prices winter weatger after all those clear skies, wall to wall sun and no wind ;)

Heavy snow here in the Cairngorms today.
Should be fabulous conditions early next week. Monday and Tuesday looking brilliant.

Wednesday 27th November.

Stunning day in the Cairngorms. After a cloudy morning the cloud drifted off and a beautiful afternoon.

Minus 6 C on the summits today. Full snow cover above 900m. No wind. Brilliant.
