How do we grade our trips?

We use a simple, colour-and-number grading system to help you choose the perfect Wilderness adventure. Similar to grading methods you might see when skiing or mountain biking, our system blends industry standards with our in-depth research.

Each trip’s grade gives you a clear understanding of its level, so you know exactly what to expect—whether you’re looking for a leisurely tour or an unforgettable challenge.

When you think of iconic cycling destinations, Scotland might not be the first to come to mind. Rich in heritage and promising a warm welcome, Scotland offers an exhilarating location for your next adventure.

And we’re not alone in thinking so. In 2023, Glasgow hosted the UCI Cycling World Championships, turning the area into a haven for those on two wheels. There are also major British events annually, such as Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men and Etape Loch Ness. Here’s a peek at these events from our team members who were in the heart of the action.

So what are you waiting for? See you in the saddle!

Hogmanay in Scotland is more than just a big party. It is a heartfelt goodbye to the old year and a warm welcome to the new.

First footers arrive on the doorsteps of friends and neighbours shortly after midnight to share gifts and bring luck for the year ahead, and the smell of juniper hangs in the air. As the final notes of Auld Lang Syne fade on the breeze and the year’s first sunrise breaks over the horizon, hundreds of braze residents and visitors head into the sea of a refreshing dip, or ‘loony dook’.

Ok, it’s also a big party.

Did you know that Christmas was banned in Scotland for almost 400 years?

In 1640, ‘Yule vacations’ were banned across Scotland as part of the Reformation. It wasn’t until 1958 that Christmas was again celebrated as a public holiday in the country!

Although Christmas is a big national holiday today, this historic ban helped Hogmanay become the major celebration that we know and love.

With a week to go until Christmas, how are you bringing a touch of Scotland to your festive celebrations?

These photos are from a recent festive walk through the Cairngorms National Park as an office team.
