We love helping our clients plan trips and realise that many are put off even thinking about a holiday by the current uncertainty, so we have decided to introduce what we think is the simplest and most flexible booking policy in the industry:

Until further notice, we will treat all deposits on new bookings as fully refundable until the final balance is due (generally 12 weeks before departure). Follow the link in bio for more information.

Lizzy is off to Costa Rica next Saturday!

She has some slightly more unusual activites planned and is really excited to return to such a fantastic country.

The trip has been based around hiking trails in the south east of the country so she will be arriving to remote lodges on foot, a truly special experience.

She is hoping to glimpse a humpback whale in the Marino Ballena National Park, although the best time to see whales is July to April! Fingers crossed for a sighting!

Here are some of the views and wildlife Lizzy can look forward to!

Happy Easter!

Did you know that Easter Island was named by its first recorded European visitor in 1722? Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen came across this remote island by accident on Easter Sunday (5 April 1722) and so named it Paasch-Eyland (meaning Easter Island in Dutch). The island has since become a travel destination despite its isolated position, famous for its stone moai statues. Estimated dates for the original settlers on the island range from 300 to 1200 AD. The moai figures are estimated to have been carved between 1250 - 1500 AD.

Happy World Malbec Day!

The Malbec grape is native to Cahors in the South of France. It was taken over to Argentina in 1852 where it has since flourished. Argentina is now the world's largest producer of Malbec and has 76,700 hectares dedicated to Malbec vines. The three main regions are Mendoza, San Juan and Salta.

The good news is that Malbec can be paired with many dishes but more specifically red meat, blue cheese and mushrooms.

Recently spotted, a rare bombus dahlbomiia. This is one of the world's largest bees which is very close to extinction and can only be found in a few places. One of these places is Bosque Piedra on Chiloé Island, Chile.

An idea for something a bit different, self-driving around the Yucatan region in Mexico.

Don't miss:
- staying on the Island of Holbox, a 1 hour ferry ride from Chiquila.
- having a guided excursion to the famous Maya site of Chichén Itzá
- stopping off at the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve
- taking in the colonial cities of Campeche and Mérida
- making the most of some beach time along the Riviera Maya

Here are some pictures from a recent trip, big thank you to VB and JW for sharing them with us.

Just a one hour ferry ride from Buenos Aires, Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay makes a great day trip destination. Swap the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires with this wonderfully peaceful town, even if it's just for a couple of hours. Car enthusiasts will enjoy spotting the vintage cars parked in the streets surrounding the historic quarter. Some of which are for decorative purposes only and have boots filled with plants!

This beautiful photo of an Victoria amazonica water lily was taken at Karanambu Lodge in Guyana. The water lily is the national flower of Guyana and was originally named Victoria regia after Queen Victoria. The lilies only open twice, at dusk, on two consecutive nights. The first time they open they are completely white (and female). On the second evening they have a hint of pink in the centre (and are male). The centres of the lilies are slightly warm to attract the beetles which pollinate them.

The Falkland Islands are full of incredible wildlife and scenery.

It is possible to island hop between the islands or visit as part of a cruise. Usually people choose to combine the Falkland Islands with a trip to Antarctica.

We recommend reading...
South: The Endurance Expedition, Ernest Shackleton - The story of Shackleton's second expedition to the South Pole in 1914, as told by the man himself. The plan was to become the first to traverse the trans-atlantic crossing, but it soon became survival.

Possibly the greatest game of hide and seek ever - A species of giant tortoise thought to have been extinct for around 110 years has been found on the Galapagos island of Fernandina! Conservationists are excited at the breeding prospects, as other track marks nearby suggest that more species may exist on the island.

The Fernandina giant tortoise disappeared more than 100 years ago. Now there is hope its population could return.

Beautiful Nicaragua is back on the map!

This lesser known neighbour to Costa Rica has plenty to offer.

Top 3 must sees:
1. Granada, a colourful colonial town full of character, with a number of fine churches.
2. Ometepe Island, was formed by two volcanoes, Concepcion and Madera, rising up in the waters of Lake Nicaragua.
3. Corn Islands, renowned for their pristine white beaches and undisturbed coral reefs.

Take a look at our 12 day sample itinerary to Nicaragua for more ideas: https://www.lastfrontiers.com/itineraries/classic-nicaragua

The FCO have changed their advice and no longer advises against all but essential travel to Nicaragua.

Spotted yesterday in Torres del Paine national park on the transfer out, a puma just crossing the road!

Puma tracking is growing in popularity and as pumas are getting more used to humans, sightings are becoming more frequent. Although, as this video shows sometimes you can just be very lucky!

Thank you for sharing such a great video with us!
