Autumn is fast approaching. It is a season of transformation and reflection, symbolising the change cycle in nature and life.

As the days grow shorter and more incredible, the vibrant greens of summer give way to a stunning palette of reds, oranges and yellows. This change in foliage marks a time of preparation, as trees shed their leaves to conserve energy for the winter months.

Meanwhile, animals respond to the shifting season by altering their behaviours; birds begin migrating to warmer climates, squirrels gather and store food, and many creatures prepare for hibernation.

As we trail hike, we learn about different ecosystems and spot wildlife like brown hares, harvest mice, harriers, and curlew birds in arable wheat fields. Smaller fields bordered by hedgerows offer ideal spots for observing nature.

While on a recent solo hike, I sat on a log to rest for a few minutes and unexpectedly sat quietly for nearly two hours.

When I'm enjoying the moment, my senses take over, a form of meditation, and I let go of everything and let my mind and body do their thing.

Our senses anchor us in the present moment, allowing us to fully experience life. Nature enhances this process by providing a distraction-free environment.

The natural world's sights, sounds, and smells help me focus on the here and now, promoting mindfulness and grounding. This is a form of "repair" that I often revisit.

By immersing myself in nature and focusing on my senses, I can observe and appreciate the simple beauty of life and concentrate on what matters, fostering a deeper connection with the world around me.

Mindfulness and hiking in nature go hand in hand, positively boosting one's wellbeing and mental state. I feel lucky that I get to do this week in and week out!

I've always thought that overthinking can be paralysing, trapping us in a cycle of doubt and indecision.

Instead of moving forward, we become mired in endless speculation. This mental treadmill can prevent us from seizing opportunities, holding us back from reaching our full potential.

By letting go of overthinking and embracing a more intuitive approach, we free ourselves to pursue our goals confidently.

Instead of being trapped in endless deliberation, we can trust our instincts and stride forward with purpose and determination, paving the way for success.

I avoid overthinking. I purposefully organise and prepare for the task or adventure ahead, but I leave room for creative thinking that leads to better outcomes on the trail and in my personal life.
