Time to filter the honey....
A lovely mild day and the Bees are very happy to be out and about collecting early pollen. A sure sign that the Queen has survived the winter and is now laying again. Check out our website at www.doonbankcottage.co.uk to find out how you can get up close and personal with the Bees!
Well it's that time of year again and we have now published our 'Wonderfull world of the honey bee' experience dates for 2023 . Turn your sound on! One of our resident Tawny owls making a right racket on top of the bothy roof. (but delightful to both hear and see)
At least we now know who's been munching on our Blackcurrrents and Willow. And now they want a nosey in the Bee shed close to the Bothy and Apiary! So cheeky - but love his little antlers :)
Well such a lovely day and with so many birds around, it's nice to see that the jackdaws above our Apiary haven't put on so much weight over Covid lockdown that they can't get into the front door of their house!........looking forward to the sound of tiny jackdaws soon!
Honey bees flying in winter
Well down at our Doonbank apiary, it's a nice mild day and rather cheering that the girls are 'a buzzin' to get out for cleansing and water flights. Lovely to see them and although it's still 'winter', it's great to see that the colony has survived the winter so far. It wont be too long before Queen Bee will start to lay again and the colony will start to rebuild to its max of about 60,000 bees in the height of summer.
Gang of Roe Deer
This gang of 3 young Roe deer are now regulars at all times of the day and night - just down from the Bothy by our Apiary.
