What a genuine celebration of love for these two and for their love for their mums whom they invited to come forward and give them their last hug and kiss before they had their first kiss as husband and wife. It was a privilege to marry Nicole and Ryan at the Riverside Lodge Hotel and thanks for their lovely words and all the great comments their guests made about 'a simply lovely ceremony'.

We're throwing a knees up to celebrate 20 years of delivering legal humanist weddings this June! Humanist marriage has been legal in Scotland since 2005 and equal marriage since 2014, thanks to campaigning by Humanist Society Scotland and other like-minded charities and organisations. We are delighted we were able to help make these changes happen in our own country and want to mark this important milestone!

All proceeds will go towards supporting our ongoing campaign work. Humanist Society is a registered charity, funded entirely by membership fees and donations.

Well the storm was in full force on Friday at Portencross Castle. This is where, just seven weeks ago, Shona and Scott had decided to have their 'secret' wedding, with just her mum Jeanette, and his sister Dale as witnesses. They had hoped for an outdoor ceremony on the roof, but as I nearly got swept out to sea trying to even get to the castle we had to have it in the semi ruined hall. Atmospheric doesn't even go there. A very personal ceremony with some happy greeting and heartfelt vows made holding an oathing stone from the beach right outside. They are a great couple who are so happy to have found each other. These are some amazing photos by professional photographer John Young. Yes the rain did go off for two minutes.

Look who tried to steal the show at his mum Nicole and dad Ryan's wedding on Friday which was Valentine's Day. Two year old Finn was a complete star, although he didn't quite take the limelight from such a gorgeous couple.......in every sense if the word. Great to be back at Riverside Lodge Hotel in Irvine and to work with David Long Photography and .

One of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding is choosing your celebrant! You might meet with a few celebrants before deciding to see who feels like the right fit for you. With that in mind we’ve put together a handy guide with some questions to ask a wedding celebrant.

The key questions!

🖋️Can you legally marry us?

This is because not all celebrants can legally marry you in Scotland. Rest assured, Humanist Society Scotland celebrants are permanently authorised to legally marry you so no matter how far in the future your wedding date is, nothing will change.

🚨 What would happen if you are not available on the day of the ceremony? Would you be able to provide a replacement celebrant to cover?

Humanist Society Scotland has a backup cover procedure in place. This is our ceremony promise to you, and means that in the unlikely event of an emergency, we will find you a replacement celebrant, from our network of over 100 celebrants across Scotland. Plus, all our celebrants are covered by public liability insurance.

Other important questions to ask:

- What training have you had?
- What experience do you have?
- How would you describe your style of delivery?
- Are we able to see you in action?
- Do you have any reviews?
- What is the total cost? (make sure this includes the base fee, travel & any other expenses, and membership fees)

Last wedding of the year. The lovely Lindsey and Kevin and their gorgeous and long awaited wee Jessica who almost stole the show, but not quite, as mum looked amazing. A great way to finish the year at the fabulous Piersland House Hotel, Troon.
