I have just returned from a last minute break in Tavira, Portugal – the weather was in the twenties and definitely beat the Scottish grey skies at this time of year!

I stayed at 4* AP Cabanas Hotel located just outside of the town of Tavira and a short stroll from the fishing village of Cabanas. The hotel itself modern and stylish, its just 4 years old so it is still very new and fresh. I stayed on all-inclusive basis and was very happy with the standard of food and drinks included in the package. The hotel has a lovely rooftop terrace with pool and bar and amazing views of the surrounding area and spectacular sunsets.🌅

Just a 10 minute walk from the hotel is the quaint village of Cabanas which offers a handful of shops, bars and restaurants and a short 2 minute boat ride takes you to a stunning unspoiled long stretch of beach. 🏖️

We jumped in an Uber to get in/out of Tavira which took about 15 minutes. Tarvia is a traditional Portuguese town on the Gilao River and is full authentic Portuguese charm, with cobbled streets, traditional colourful tiled houses and 21 churches most of which are now museums. We did an excursion with Maria’s Tuk Tuk Tours and whizzed round the cobbled streets in the back of a Tuk Tuk driven by an expert guide and the tour ended with wine and tapas at a fab traditional restaurant called Ti Maria (restaurant worth a visit even if you don’t do the tour) - overall great value for money and a fun way to see the sights and sample the local food and drink.

For golfers the hotel is a short distance from some of the most iconic courses in east Algarve like Benamor, Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima, Quinta do Vale, Castro Marim and Monte Rei ⛳️

So if you are looking for a more authentic Portuguese experience compared to the busier resorts further west on The Algarve then Tavira is for you!
