If it was down to me there would be no mention of Christmas until 1st December but I'll give way to the annual extravaganza at Chatsworth House. Not many weekends left for November and December but midweek dates are looking good.

This Christmas, we invite you to the Palace of Advent.
Discover 24 rooms filled with Christmas wonder and the sights, sounds and scents of the season. Travel beneath candy cane archways and wander through a glittering Christmas tree brooch forest. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of Father Christmas' workshop, and look out for mischief-making elves.
The celebrations continue in the garden with an interactive light and sound trail leading to a dazzling animated light show that transforms the house into a giant advent calendar. From 4 November - 7 January, we canโt wait to welcome youโฆ

DISCOVER ... Peveril Castle. The romantic stone ruins of Peveril Castle stand high on a hill overlooking the pretty Peak District village of Castleton, with the Hope Valley spread out to one side and the beautiful limestone gorge of Cave Dale to the other. Peveril Castle is one of the earliest Norman fortresses in England, built soon after the Norman Conquest in 1066 and named after William Peverel, the son of King William I. Peveril Castle has been owned by English Heritage since 1932, when it was gifted to them by the Duchy of Lancaster. It is now a protected Scheduled Ancient Monument of international importance. We think it's well worth a visit if you're in the area - and the views from the top are incredible!
A day for testing the waterproofs

If you're going to walk below a gardyloo, make sure it's unoccupied (has been for a few hundred years)
Blowing away cobwebs that we didn't know we had ....
Brrrrrr .....
One of our favourite times of year at Haddon is when the roses make an appearance, providing a burst of colour on the hallโs walls ๐น
Shrove Tuesday - for many the feast day before the start of Lent, for many more Pancake Day and for the good people of Ashbourne and several hundred "turner-uppers", an opportunity to bag a head injury in a 2 day football match on a 3 mile "pitch" and a 4lb football.
Red sky at night ....
Nothing better than starting the week with a little planned demolition ๐
The perfect place for a peaceful break, itโs official. Lower Folds in Over Haddon is the ideal base.
