Peak Rail
Have you been to Peak Rail? 🚂
This wonderful, preserved railway line is a must-visit when you're in Derbyshire.
A heritage steam and diesel line that runs for four miles between the charming railway stations in Matlock and Rowsley South, its station in Matlock has been preserved to resemble what it would have been like in its former heyday, giving the attraction a bygone era feel with some fascinating history. It was designed in part by Joseph Paxton, the famed architect of the Crystal Palace in London. Operating since 1992, it was opened when a group of enthusiasts first began running preserved steam and diesel locomotives on a section of 19th Century heritage line between Matlock and Darley Dale.
The rail offers some great events throughout the year, including Halloween nights and a 'Santa Special', along with two restaurants cars, serving up some mouth-watering dishes. There are plans to extend the link further, as far as Bakewell, and we can't wait!
