Hi everyone
The Tullich is changing hands - making Tullich Apartment a comfortable and relaxing base from which to experience the delights of Ballater and the surrounding area has been a pleasure for Ken and Maggie and we very much appreciate the generous comments received from our guests, many of whom have become regular visitors over the last 11 years.
As we hand over to Josephine and Stephen we wish them all the very best in their new venture.

Special night last night in Ballater where I was MC’ing The Platinum Jubilee opening event. Splendid Beacon restored by ‘The Ballater Chiels’ who are amazing! Here with David Cobban of the Jubilee Committee. And delighted to meet Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Inkster - Ballater’s oldest resident who lit the Beacon.

Lovely food and coffee

Over thousands of years the Linn of Quoich at Mar Lodge Estate has carved a natural hole in the rock known today as the ‘Earl of Mar’s punchbowl’ as local legend has it that the Earl of Mar poured a drink into the punchbowl to toast the Jacobite Cause in 1715. The power of nature 💪💟

New venue! New menu!

Ahead of our reopening at Ballater’s Old Royal Station on Friday 21 May, our award-winning kitchen team has been busy curating a new Spring menu full of creative dishes made from the finest local produce for our guests to enjoy.

Among the dishes set to feature on the new menu, which can be viewed in full on our website, is Wark Farm lamb with aubergine caviar, lamb ‘ragù, heritage carrot, potato and jus.

Executive chef Ross Cochrane said: “The Rothesay Rooms team can’t wait to welcome back guests later this month.

“During the closure, we have been busy creating new menus which encapsulate our ethos of showcasing the finest local ingredients while embracing the field to fork cooking philosophy.”

Throughout May and June, the Rothesay Rooms will be open for lunch service on Fridays (12pm - 2pm), Saturdays (12pm - 2pm) and Sundays (12pm - 3pm), and for dinner service (6-9pm) on Fridays and Saturdays.

The iconic Cambus O' May suspension bridge which was severely damaged by floods during Storm Frank at the end of 2015 has reopened following major repair works.

Forming part of the Cairngorms National Park’s core path network, the Edwardian structure over the River Dee has always been a popular spot for locals and visitors as it crosses the river at such an eye-catching spot.

Ballater Royal Deeside undertook a major fundraising drive to support the project, with the remaining funds coming from the Scottish Government.
