Found this today.
From the early 80s, it is a memorial to Big Jim . I remember him from when I was a boy, herding our cows around from Gortin to Drumnacur .He was a big tall man, eager to tell tales of when he was a young man growing up in the glen but as children we had no time to listen....if only we had it would have been a great addition to any tour of Glenariffe to recite stories told first hand from the last of a lost generation.

🏰HED State Care Monuments are amongst the best-known historic landmarks and tourist destinations in Northern Ireland.

Located one mile from Cushendall are the delightful ruins of a 13th century Franciscan foundation.

Chief burial place of the MacDonnell's after Bonamargy. It has been built at least three times and served as a parish church from 1306 to the end of the 18th century.

Fine stones in the graveyard include a cross in memory of Doctor James MacDonnell, pioneer in the use of chloroform for surgical operations.

Keith and Carol from Lancashire, England had a good day touring from Glenarm to Portrush on what was a day of mixed weather.....luckily most of the stops coincided with sunny spells and showed our stunning scenery at it's very best.

Andrew and Nancy from Maryland, USA had a packed itinerary today after being picked up in Belfast.
After a drive through the Glens we stopped in Ballycastle for lunch followed by stops at Portaneevy View Point, Ballintoy Harbour, Giants Causeway,Dunluce Castle and Downhill before being dropped off at Derry.

A weird place ,mystical, prayerful ,a place of self reflection. Three days of bare feet,black tea ,dry toast and a full night and following day of no sleep gives a deeper understanding of inner peace and what is really important in life..... Definitely not to be mistaken for a holiday destination.

To help on their way they got a sample of "the rare oul' stuff" (made by a man who knows a man whose wife bought a dog from a second cousin of my daughters boyfriend.....) Murlough Bay on the North Antrim Coast, a few miles East of Ballycastle... Steeped in history and folklore this area was a favourite haunt of the Irish patriot and leader of the Easter Rebellion of 1916, Roger Casement whose family were local landlords. Also the location of Slavers Bay in Game of Thrones this is a beautiful area for a Sunday evening stroll..... You might just catch a glimpse of a WHITE deer alleged to be seen here on odd occasions......

Out on the hills today with Caomhin from Nine Glens Walking Tours.... Great weather for a long walk but with some snow still on the ground the going was hard at times. Topics covered included the rise and fall of the Clan Mc Donnell, the Battle of Aurra,the death of ten American airmen on the mountain in 1942 and the "sighting" of Bigfoot in the local forest some years ago. To compound this we met a family of Bigfoot hunters on our way back...... Though a sceptic I can't say anything as no-one can prove to me that faeries are not real!!!!
