Check out our April inspiration gallery - April is the beginning of spring and the gorse starts its stunning display, turning the hedgerows bright yellow and giving off the scent of coconut. Great time of year for beachcombing, with really high and low spring tides, and can often have really great weather. Towards the end of the month the bluebells start to show and the blossom arrives on the trees.

The Northern Lights were on full display last night. February is a great month for seeing them. With long dark nights, clear skies, low light polllution and our northerly latitude. Install the aurora watch app on your phone whilst in residence and you might just be lucky. This photo was taken from Ashaig just 15 minutes down the road from Balmacara with good uninterrupted views north over the sea !

April is a great time to visit Coillemore house. There are some great sunny days in spring alongside the gorse bushes in bloom with their coconut aroma and the last snow on top of the hills and mountains. Its also an interesting time of year to see the lichens covering in the trees of the Balmacara estate without the leaves on yet.

Spring is here in Coillemores garden, March is a great time of year to visit the West Coast of Scotland. The rhodedendroms are blooming in the garden, bulbs are starting to shoot, great sunsets and the occasional lambing snow too.

We are delighted to say that Coillemore House is now open!

And in true Highland style too: here is George Stevenson, one of the four brothers of Balmacara who were our first guests last week, performing "Return to Coillemore" upon arrival, a bagpipe piece especially written by his talented composer son Euan Stevenson to celebrate their return to the house where two of them were born and where they all spent many happy times in their youth. And what better way to inaugurate the new era at Coillemore House!

It was inspiring for us to witness first hand how much the house meant to the four brothers and equally encouraging to see how impressed they were with the renovation. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to us reaching this milestone! Now looking forward to a busy summer ahead...

In a place like this it is impossible not to feel "inspired by nature" - the words that have become our design philosophy. We love hanging out in our south-facing living room with its high windows, where you can bask in the amazing natural light of the highlands without even leaving the house! Just as enjoyable on those changeable, all-four-seasons west coast days, watching the endless shifting of quicksilver clouds across moody skies. And as the light slowly fades, put the fire on and enjoy a wee dram on one of the cosy sofas...
