Meetings and more meetings! 👔📂🗓️📥📈

A fantastic couple of days in London at the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) catching up with fellow Chart and Nautical Instrument Trade Association (CINTA) members on day one and having discussions with representatives from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) and the International Association for Marine Electronics Companies (CIRM).

Day two was another superbly run ‘Meet the Buyer’ event, were meetings were held with various industry publishers and suppliers including ITU, ICS, Brown Son and Ferguson, Chersoft, The Nautical Institute, TSO, I C Brindle, UKHO and Imray, finding out the latest developments, future releases, discussing potential collaborations amongst other interesting things, which we will share information on in due course, so watch this space.

COSWP is a comprehensive set of guidelines and best practices designed to ensure the safety and health of seafarers working on merchant vessels. It provides practical guidance on safe working practices and procedures to be followed on board ships to minimise risks and prevent accidents.

It is a statutory requirement for the current edition of the code to be carried on board all UK ships, other than fishing vessels and pleasure craft. The code contains essential health and safety information, and it must be made available to any seafarer on board the ship who requests it.

In recent weeks we have taken stock of the new GMDSS Manual from IMO, which provides, in a single comprehensive publication, an explanation of the principles upon which the GMDSS is based, including the radiocommunication requirements and recommendations for its implementation, the operational performance standards and technical specifications to be met by GMDSS equipment, and the procedures for and method of operation of the various radio services that form the GMDSS and the Master Plan for the GMDSS.

The 2024 edition contains the latest information emanating from the IMO project on the modernisation of the GMDSS, which was completed in 2022 and led to the overall revision of relevant SOLAS regulations and many other mandatory and non-mandatory IMO instruments related to the GMDSS.

Tidal times & heights (reproduced by permission of the UK Hydrographic Office) are provided for the five Primary Ports of Dublin, Cobh, Galway, Tarbert Island and Belfast, together with local variations for 120 Secondary Ports around the Irish coast.
