On Sunday morning June 29th I'll be saying HOORAY FOR HENDON! OK, that's not a phrase you're likely to have shouted out recently; but the old Hendon around the lovely village church still has a rural feel, and that's what I'll be showing on the walk, meeting at Hendon Central tube station at 11am. We'll see lots of traces of old Hendon, and hear about the famous people who lived there. We'll also see the beautiful 17th-century former Church Farmhouse Museum (pictured), now sadly closed, and see who's commemorated on the blue plaque. And peeking into next month, on July 8th/9th at 1.45pm I'll be walking THE LINE, GREENWICH, a Thames-side display of sculptures, and also looking at some of the new building developments in North Greenwich. And on July 12th at 11am I'll be touring KENSAL GREEN CEMETERY, one of the 'Magnificent Seven', looking at some of the famous people buried there, including royals, architects, artists, novelists, a tightrope walker, engineers, explorers and eccentrics. Are you interested in Barnet? And its churches? And its pubs? Then I've got just the thing for you: a guided walk around BARNET CHURCHES AND PUBS -- the sacred and the profane. We'll be looking at nearly 1000 years of how and where the people of Barnet have worshipped ... and made merry. We meet outside High Barnet tube station on Sunday June 22nd at 2.30pm. I've got a rare treat coming up on Saturday June 14th at 2.30pm -- a guided walk in TERRIFIC TOTTERIDGE, one of the wealthiest and loveliest of all London suburbs, with stunning Georgian and Arts and Crafts houses, famous names, a gorgeous green, and a great deal more. I'm clicking my heels with anticipation about my guided walk in EDGWARE, an area with far more to offer than you probably suspect. Ancient Eggeswere still has its charming partly medieval church, two sets of almshouses, a 16th-century row of shops, a variety of delightful parks, one of which we’ll walk through -- and lots more. We meet at Edgware tube station (you can get straight there on the 107 bus from High Barnet if you're coming from there, or on the tube) on Sunday May 4th at 2.30pm. I'll be leading an anniversary BATTLE OF BARNET guided walk around the battlefield on Easter Sunday April 20th to commemorate the 554th anniversary -- the battle, part of the Wars of the Roses, took place on Easter Sunday 1471. We meet at 2.30pm at the junction of the Great North Rd and Hadley Green Rd EN5 5PP, opposite the Monken Holt pub. There's some audience participation, so watch out! And that's followed on Saturday April 26th at 11am by a tour of the newly restored BATTERSEA POWER STATION, inside and outside, and KENTISH TOWN on Tuesday/Wednesday April 29th/30th at 1.45pm. I've got four super walks coming up in April, starting with COOL CAMDEN TOWN on April 5th at 11am. On Easter Sunday 20th at 2.30pm I'll be leading a special ANNIVERSARY BATTLE OF BARNET walk. Then on April 26th at 11am I'll be touring the beautifully redeveloped BATTERSEA POWER STATION, inside and out.
