Happy International Cats Day! 🐈

Whilst not strictly travel related, it’s a good day to sing the praises of Imogen Porter at Couture Cat Sitting Services for recently looking after our clutter so wonderfully whilst we were away on holiday

She spent time with them as well as feeding & cleaning up, sending daily updates & photos

Having taken on 2 new cats earlier this year, we felt they’d be better in their home environment than a cattery & they couldn’t be in safer, more caring hands

Every week I’m seeing travel disruption be it airlines cancelling or changing flights, crazy weather or airport chaos

It’s not nice but sadly it’s part of travel nowadays. So what’s the point of this post you ask?

This afternoon I had a flight cancelled by Easyjet. Within 10 minutes I’d spoken to my client & had booked an alternative flight at no additional cost to her. She was out in the countryside enjoying the sunshine - she probably still is ☀️😎

Had she not booked with me, her afternoon would’ve been very different. A few hours spent stressing how she was going to get on holiday next month & having to pay for new flights then wait on a refund.

We all hope our holidays run smoothly but the fact is they often don’t. Having a professional by your side makes the world of difference.

So I went a little quiet at the end of my St Lucia trip & here’s the reason why!

It’s a long read (bizarrely entertaining as told with Sheila’s usual wit) but a cautionary tale about how quickly a holiday can turn from fun & japes to broken bones & trip to A&E

Moral of the story is don’t go dancing in a hurricane 🌀 💃

More important message is DO NOT TRAVEL WITHOUT INSURANCE OR A CREDIT CARD (and ensure your travel companions know where they are)

$200 before they’d even look at her & a final bill of around £15k - not something anyone plans for when working out their spending money 💰

The insurance company were great & covered everything but not without constant encouragement as to the urgency of getting home

I’m now adding carer & repatriation expert to my CV 🇱🇨♿️✈️

The calm before the storm….

Whilst Beryl approaches the life of a travel agent continued as normal yesterday with the best day of weather so far!

A couple of hotel visits (more on that later) followed by a few hours at the wonderful Howelton Estate 1896

Set in the lush hills above Castries it’s one of the oldest houses in St Lucia established in 1896. Now home to artisanal experiences, they offer the chance to get creative with local craft classes.

Our group enjoyed candle making, painting, learning how to create batiks and I made some chocolate. A traditional lunch was served including green fig & saltfish salad and accra, a kind of small fish cake. All very tasty especially with a cold Piton beer & wonderful views.

Back to Sandals Grande St. Lucian for the last few rays of sunshine ☀️

All reasonably calm this morning but we’re prepared for strong winds & rain as the day progresses. Looks like the island will be lucky and miss the worst of Beryl. My thoughts go out to the other islands that will be less fortunate.

Moving on today from a lovely couple of days at Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia

Storm Beryl is incoming so made the most of the sun. Morning yoga with Jay set me up for an afternoon of beach activities including a first for me - paddle boarding

Never thought it even be able to kneel on it without falling off (getting on/off anything on water is not my forte!) I’m very proud I managed to not only stand up but negotiate my way around a catamaran unscathed 💪
