Final update of the day from us. Amber weather warning in force until tomorrow, not covering Barrow itself but does cover the roads leading here.

The Met Office Amber warning for snow has been extended to 6am tomorrow morning (Monday 6 January) in some parts of Cumbria.

📌If you must travel during this time do so with caution - pack your car with essentials, plan your route and listen to travel updates.
❌Never drive through a road closure. Take an alternative route. Road closures are there for your safety.
⌚Plan ahead for any journeys, allowing for extra time
❗Take extra care and, where possible, please use main roads which have been treated.
🚗Drive slowly and with extra care and attention.
🚲Please allow vulnerable road users including cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians more room than usual.

A66 remains closed this evening

Drive safely 🚘

⚠️ A66 REMAINS CLOSED ⚠️

🚧⛔️ A reminder that the maintained by National Highways remains closed in both directions until further notice.

As a result, we will also be keeping the B6276 between and -in-Teesdale closed during this period. This is to avoid drivers seeking alternative routes during the A66 closure using untreated minor roads, where there is likely to be equally difficult conditions.

Please observe the road closed signs and do no try to use the B6276 during this closure.

If you are travelling, please check the weather conditions, plan your journey and check our gritting map for roads that we are treating and stick to these routes wherever possible https://bit.ly/4e9QTGa

Our highways team will continually monitor the conditions and will look to re-open the B6276 as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Latest update from Cumbria Police

Update -2:45pm

Emergency services remain in attendance at BAE in Barrow following a significant fire at the site in the early hours of this morning (30 October).

Firefighters at the scene have the fire suppressed and have moved onto dampening down.

As such, people may soon see fire and rescue vehicles begin to leave the site, although there is likely to remain a presence for the majority of the day.

A multi-agency investigation is on-going to establish the cause of the fire.

We are no longer advising the public of the need to close doors and windows, not have car air conditioning on, etc.

Michaelson Bridge has been reopened.

The major incident response and related strategic coordination group has now been stood down.

Police and partner agencies would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation throughout the incident.

Please continue to attend appointments as usual.

Primary Care, including general practice, is open as usual today and people should attend any existing appointments.

Primary Care Services in the area are unaffected.
