Hello, we are Tamsin and David and we would like to welcome you to Sungate, our truly autism friendly holiday home in the beautiful city of Bath.

Sungate has been lovingly adapted to meet the needs of autistic children, young people and adults, their families and carers.

Sungate has a range of features and adaptations we couldn’t find anywhere else when we went on holiday with our autistic son in the UK. The accommodation was too cluttered, too noisy or overwhelming for him. Other holiday homes just didn’t cater for our son’s autism, his ADHD, his sensory difficulties. This meant that by the time we got home, we all needed another holiday!!

We decided to speak to other families, autistic children and adults, about their experiences and realised that many others felt the same way we did. They wanted an autism friendly place to stay, but just could not find anything suitable. They wanted holidays in beautiful locations too, but just could not find anywhere to meet their needs. We knew something had to change…and so Sungate was born!

At Sungate we aim to be truly autism friendly. We know how much holidays and short breaks mean to our families and have worked hard to make this happen. Not only is our Sungate home autism friendly, we provide a digital guidebook with details of autism friendly places to visit, eat out and shop in Bath during your stay.

We love Bath and want our guests to love it too! Whether it’s a short walk to nearby Bath city farm, or a visit to the Roman Baths, winner of an autism friendly award, we have tried to include places you can visit to enjoy an autism friendly holiday in the World Heritage city.

We also welcome non-autistic, neurotypical families and think you would also enjoy staying at Sungate too!

Today is the third Monday of January, commonly known as Blue Monday, because it’s often dark, gloomy and chilly, and everyone is adjusting to the new year ahead.

It’s a time when families often book a holiday or short break away to cheer themselves up. However, what if you’ve tried to do this in the past, but haven’t been able to find accommodation to meet your autistic loved one’s needs?

This is where Sungate can help!

Sungate is designed to meet the needs of autistic children, adults, their parents and carers. It has a range of unique adaptations and sensory equipment, whilst retaining a holiday feel. Today we painted Sungate’s picket fence, getting everything in tip top condition, ready for our 2025 guests, who deserve a holiday, just like everyone else.

So let’s banish those blues, it’s time to book a holiday…hope to see you soon!

We thought it would be good to share our Sungate video tour with you.

Sungate is a 3 bedroom bungalow that sleeps 5, located in the beautiful city of Bath. It has been lovingly adapted to include a range of autism and family friendly features.

Prices for 2025 are:

During school and bank holidays:

£480 for 3 nights (Friday to Monday)
£560 for 4 nights (Monday - Friday)
£998 for 7 nights (Friday - Friday, Monday - Monday)

At other times:
£360 for 3 nights (Friday to Monday)
£398 for 4 nights (Monday to Friday)
£698 for 7 nights

A 20% deposit is payable upon booking with the balance due 6 weeks before your stay. We can also arrange payment plans, and accept Family Fund vouchers. We are dog friendly too 🐾💙

Sungate Sensory Corner 💙

When we created Sungate, we spoke to lots of autistic people, their families and carers, about what they needed for a calming and relaxing holiday.

We listened, and created the Sensory Corner, a regulating space set within the lounge, designed to enable the whole family to sit and relax together, after a busy day out in Bath.

The Sungate Sensory Corner is for both sensory seekers and those who are sensory sensitive. It contains:

• Teardrop swing
• Egg chair
- Trampoline board
• Sensory box full of fidget, light toys and games
• Crawl tunnel and floor mat
• Floor cushion and spin toy
• Beautiful views of Bath from the bay window

Did you know we have a Sungate app?

When you book a stay at Sungate, guests receive a link to an app, downloadable to your phone, with details about Sungate’s unique adaptations and sensory equipment, plus other information our families may find helpful, such as autism friendly places to visit in and around Bath.

The app also includes personal recommendations that have worked for us as a family.

We regularly update the app when guests tell us about places they have visited that have worked well for them too 💙

We arrived early to the Festival as the sun was setting, to avoid the lights being too bright and busy crowds. It worked for us, and all of this information, and more, can be found in our guide!

Beautiful wintry pictures taken at Bath City Farm, just a 5 minute walk from Sungate.

The farm is free entry (donations welcome), with plenty to see and do, including farm animals, spectacular views of Bath, a welcoming cafe offering snacks and meals (we love their breakfasts!) and a fun play area. During the holidays, the farm provides inclusive meet the animals SEN sessions 🐇🐓🐖🦙

So much to do on Sungate’s doorstep! Why not pay the farm a visit during your stay? 😊

Happy 2025 from our Sungate family to yours💙

Our son Henry is the inspiration behind Sungate - a truly autism friendly holiday home in beautiful Bath.

Before Sungate, we struggled to find accommodation to meet Henry’s needs. As a result, we have spent years talking to autistic people, their families and carers, adapting Sungate to meet their needs.

Since opening in 2023, we have had many wonderful families stay. This is the reason we decided to take a leap of faith and do something new, to create a truly autism friendly holiday home.

Here’s to looking forward to new beginnings and opportunities.

Here’s to moving forward to a new year that brings new experiences and memories.

Here’s to enjoying a well deserved holiday or break, something everyone deserves. We look forward to welcoming more wonderful families to Sungate in 2025.

Check in day today, and a chance to share some of our sensory adaptations with our new followers!

The family have requested the indoor swing and trampoline board in the lounge Sensory Corner, plus we’ve added the floor mat, crawl tunnel, fidget toys and games. There’s also the galaxy projector and neon lights in the twin room 😊

We’re overjoyed that these guests are a returning family to Sungate - this is their second visit this year!

Autism friendly holiday home in Bath 💙

Being parents of a neurodivergent family, including our eldest son who is autistic, we understand how hard it can be to find suitable holiday accommodation.

Sungate, Bath was created after years of not being able to find UK holiday accommodation to meet our autistic son’s complex needs. Being autistic, with ADHD and a learning disability, it became impossible to find a safe holiday home for him, with sensory equipment and a holiday feel.

Sungate is an autism friendly bungalow with unique adaptations, sensory equipment and toys to meet a range of needs. It has 3 bedrooms (sleeps 5), 2 bathrooms and onsite parking. It is in the beautiful world heritage city of Bath.

Sungate is set away from the main road, providing peace and quiet in the house, and fantastic views of Bath. There is on site parking available.

1. Safety and simplicity

We have tried to ensure that Sungate is a safe place for autistic people to relax and enjoy themselves, including:

- neutral, calming decor

- doors and windows are lockable, windows have safety restrictors

- there is underfloor heating throughout

– no trinkets! Sungate is a clutter free zone, avoiding overstimulation and, hopefully, breakages! It is a spacious and light home from home

– integrated wires. We have tried, where possible, to reduce the number of exposed wires around the house, for example, TV and DVD wires are fitted within the chimney breast in the lounge

– lockable cupboards. Cupboards in the kitchen are controlled using magnetic locks. There is also a lockable integrated bin

– lockable appliances and lockable utility room with washing machine. The washer dryer, oven, and hob all have a child lock. The microwave and iron have automatic shut off

- large fridge freezer, coffee machine and popcorn maker

- all rooms are fitted with safety blinds. Outside there is an enclosed sensory courtyard.

2. Sensory equipment

Our sensory adaptations and equipment include:

- colour changing electric fire

– Sensory Corner, including teardrop swing, trampoline board, floor cushion, mat and crawl tunnel

- sensory toy and games box

- 2 Egg chairs and giant beanbag chair

– neon lights

– laser stars projector

– white noise machine

- weighted blanket

- black out blinds

- main bathroom with sensor tap and bath

- small wet room with Powder Rain shower

- noise reducing composite sink in the kitchen and Quiet Mark fans in the bathrooms

- warm white dimmable lighting throughout

- blankets, textured cushions and fluffy rugs

- Sensory Courtyard, a secluded outdoor area with its own water feature, wind chimes and canopy swing.

3. Comfort and reassurance

- The mattresses in the King Room and twin room are Ultimate Comfort mattresses, guaranteed for a much-needed good night’s sleep – we know how much parent carers and autistic people value this.

- a waterproof mattress is available

– a Safe Place bed is available

- a travel cot is available

- a high chair is available.

For your enjoyment, we also provide:

- bay window bench seat, with lovely views of Bath

- Smart TV and DVD player in the lounge (with Netflix and Disney+) and TV/DVD player in the kitchen

- bluetooth Alexa speaker

- millionaire cakes, tea, coffee and a selection of hot chocolate on arrival

- Beauty of Bath soap and bath soak, plus aromatherapy shower steamers

4. A great location, great for autistic children, adults, their parents and carers. When you book with us we provide our guests with a personalised digital welcome guide book, downloadable to your phone, with up to date details on autism and family friendly places to visit during your stay so you can plan ahead.

We are a short walk from the local shops, takeaways and Bath City Farm, and a 10 minute drive or bus ride from Bath city centre. The famous Roman baths (10 min drive), Longleat safari park and Wookey Hole caves (40 min drive), are just some of the many recommendations provided in our guide.

5. Last but not least, we accept Family Fund vouchers. We are also dog friendly 🐾
