🎅MEET ‘FARMER CHRISTMAS’ AT BATH CITY FARM!🎅

These special sessions are happening at Bath City Farm, just a 5 minute walk from Sungate.

Groups are limited to 10 children, making them accessible for families staying at Sungate, and cost just £5 (£3 concession).

Ho ho ho!

Christmas is coming, and your little ones can book to see 'Farmer Christmas' who will be taking a break in his busy schedule to be at Bath City Farm on Saturday 30 November during our Winter Fayre.

Groups of up to 10 children will sit in the Farm's roundhouse with Farmer Christmas and his elves and each receive a small present to take home.

The ten minute time slots start at 10.30 am and run every quarter of an hour until the last at 2.15 pm.
Places are now booking up, however we still have good availability at 12.15, 12.30, 12.45, 1 pm, 1.30 and 1.45 pm.

Standard tickets for a child cost £5 with concessions £3 per child.

Our new luxury Shower Steamers, courtesy of The Somerset Toiletry Company are available for guests at check in day today 🚿😍

From their Repair and Care range, these aromatherapy discs can be placed on the floor of Sungate’s WhirlAir powder rain shower, releasing an amazing scent burst during bathing. How wonderful!

We also have our famous millionaire cakes from The Great Cake Company, plus tea, coffee and hot chocolate (Caramel and Orange flavour) on arrival, yum! 💙

Purple Tuesday is a disability service which aims to improve the experiences of disabled people by making places and providers more accessible.

At Sungate, our aim is to make holidays and short breaks accessible to people with hidden disabilities including autism, ADHD, and Tourettes Syndrome.

1. Struggle to park near the house (stress before even arriving!)

2. Upon entering, hide away all the breakable trinkets and ornaments

3. Take down the pictures in glass frames on the walls

4. Move the furniture around to declutter and make the rooms safe

5. Tuck away loose curtains, stick up temporary blackout blind you’ve brought with you

6. Hide away loose wires in all the rooms

7. Push the TV against the wall to stop it being knocked over

8. Bring your own sensory toys (none provided)

9. Bring your own sensory equipment (none available)

10. Hide away glass lamps

11. Bring a lamp from home that’s safe/dimmable

12. Bring plates with dividers from home (none provided)

13. Check the WiFi (fingers crossed!!!🤞)

14. Check there’s a smart TV and DVD player (oh no, there isn’t one!)

15. Check there are dimmable lights (oh no, they aren’t!)

16. Check the bathroom has a bath (oh no, just a shower!)

17. Put a blanket over the sofa (looks like it could stain easily!)

18. Hide away cleaning equipment left in the open kitchen cupboard

19. Check all doors and windows, and cupboards for locks (realise some doors and windows aren’t lockable so try to block off that door/window!!)

20. Block off the stairs due to safety risks

21. Realise the fridge freezer is small (not sure where you’re going to put the safe foods?!)

22 Check the oven for child lock (realise there isn’t one!)

23. Find there isn’t any waterproof bedding

24. Realise there’s no food delivery service

25. Realise there’s no Macdonalds nearby (oh no!!! 😳)

26. Wonder what places you will be able to visit during your stay (no autism friendly guide available)

Check in day, and the family have the crawl tunnel, floor mat, hoola hoops and box of fidget toys in the Sensory Corner today 😊

For new followers, here are just a few pictures of Sungate’s many safety features:

- hidden wires (Smart TV/DVD player wires are hidden in the lounge chimney breast, bedside lights in the King bedroom have integrated wires)

- plug and light switch covers (twin room plug sockets have lockable covers, the light switch in the single room has a lockable cover)

- lockable kitchen cupboards (magnet locks)

A walk in Bath, taken today 💙

We began by parking behind Victoria Park, (first hour is free, then just £1.60 for an extra 2 hours after that). We then took a 5 minute walk across to the famous Royal Crescent, passing Bath Pavillion on our right, with its bandstand (and squirrel!) followed by a brief stroll through the beautiful city centre (which was nice and quiet), saying hi to the guide at The Jane Austen Centre, and window shopping at Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights 📚

We also spotted Bath’s open top Toot bus, a firm favourite with our family for getting out and about 🚍

It was overcast in Bath today, but still so beautiful! 🍁❤️

Check in day and our first request for two dogs to stay at Sungate (two dog beds) 🐾🐾💙

The family have also requested the indoor swing and trampoline board, plus the portable door gate.

Check in day and a special request from our guest family 💙

The family staying have travelled from abroad, and asked if they could drop off their luggage early. We were happy to oblige and so they did just that before heading on into Bath.

Wherever we can, we always try to be flexible and meet guests’ needs and requirements 😊

What does mean to you?

Sungate has a range of unique adaptations and sensory equipment, but we offer much more than this.

For us, being is:

- talking and listening to individual families about their needs

- understanding that not all autistic people are the same, and their needs are not all the same

- understanding that autistic children and adults may have conditions in addition to autism

- understanding that holidays, even short ones, may need careful planning and consideration

- answering any questions and queries - no matter how unusual or unique!

- reassuring families who are nervous about going on holiday

- being kind, no judgement 💙

Sunshine and clouds for check in day 🌤️

The lounge bay window is the perfect place to watch the world go by at Sungate, with the rocking chair, cosy bench seat and egg chair set up for guests to relax 💙

The colour changing fireplace, underfloor heating, and warm white lights at Sungate also add to the warm welcome 🥰
