•COMMITTEE 2024/25•
Next up in committee for this year…
👤Name & role: Ela - Media Sec
✏️Uni course: 4th year Architecture
⛰️Mountaineering passion: I am a scrambler at heart as I love being in the mountains, and also like to dip into the world of climbing. I get a real thrill scrambling along exposed ridges and traversing across rock! I am also a lover of trail running (when I’m not injured..)
❔Club member since: The climbing taster in freshers week! Although I got more involved in the club after summer trip at the end of 1st year.
💛Favourite club memory: Too many to choose from…but chilling on the beach around a campfire on summer trip ‘24 was a highlight…

•COMMITTEE 2024/25•
Please welcome your committee members for the next year!
👤 Name & role: Ollie - Secretary
✏️ Uni course: Final year Nat Sci (Envrio Major)
⛰️Mountaineering passion: So I’m a walker, like I prefer to keep atleast one foot on the ground at all times and no bent knees (idk if you’ve been watching the Olympics speed walking). I’ll dabble in bouldering and go orienteering because it’s more interesting than jogging but really I’m in it for a long walk with a good view.
❔Club member since: First Year during Freshers week. I wanted to go on Freshers trip. Sorry to those I probably gave freshers flu to and for the absurd quantity of rice.
💛 Favourite club memory: This is tricky, I’d still say doing the Fairfield loop in the lake District on Xmas trip in my first year. Just the views. But that could quite easily become one of my many Thursday evenings down the pub with you lot.

•COMMITTEE 2024/25•
Next up on committee….
👤 Name & role: Adam - Welfare and Inclusivity Officer
✏️ Uni course: 4th year Civil Engineering
⛰️Mountaineering passion: I get involved in most stuff, but mainly walking (and scrambling when I can)
❔Club member since: I joined the BUMC to go on Freshers Trip in my first year.
💛Favourite club memory: It’s difficult to decide on a favourite moment! Probably the winter mountaineering trip in my first year. It was so different to anything I had done before, despite the rain
11/08/2024
•COMMITTEE 2024/24•
Next up we have….
👤 Name & role: Sam - Social Sec
✏️ Uni course: Final Year Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence
⛰️Mountaineering passion: Though I’m predominantly a climber, I love being outdoors so I’m also very happy hiking, orienteering, running, or whatever it may be
❔Club member since: I joined at the very start of my 1st year and stuck around ever since
💛 Favourite club memory: It’s tough to choose but I’ll give it to the Font trip in my 2nd year, fantastic weather, amazing climbing, great food, and even better wine - it’s hard to go wrong
10/08/2024
•COMMITTEE 2024/25•
Please welcome your committee members for the next year!
👤 Name & role: Josh Nicholas, Treasurer
✏️ Uni course: 5th Year Physics
⛰️Mountaineering passion: I love to get involved in all things outdoorsy, but my main passion is hiking, whether that be long backpacking trips or hillwalking in the mountains.
❔Club member since: I joined BUMC back in my first year.
💛 Favourite club memory: My favourite club memory has to be Christmas carols on Helvellyn in my second year - it was magical!

•COMMITTEE 2024/24•
Next up on your new committee members for this year…
👤 Name & Role: Reuben, Gear Secretary
✏ Uni Course: Architecture, Final Year (4th)
⛰Mountaineering Passion: I am primarily a climber and trail runner (albeit a permanently injured one). Those have evolved from a background of walking in the hills... I even had a stint as orienteering sec 2 years ago!
❔Club member since: I joined right at the start of first year - Freshers’ trip threw me into the deep end in the exact right way and I slowly got more involved as time went on.
💛 Favourite club memory: Pretty much every trip ever! With the club or just with people I know from the club. Maybe Crib Goch in winter overnight on Christmas trip? Running marathons in the dark on night hike? Having epics in Scotland on ISB or DWS on Summer Trip? Too many memories to count!

Hello! I’m Jake, a 3rd year Chem Eng student and one of your climbing secretaries this year! My favourite club memories are from chilling in the gîte on trips to Fontainebleau. I’m excited to get some sick trips planned this year and meet loads of new people, so if you’re a new or an old member come say hi!

WILD CAMP '24 🏕
Some stunning photos of Dartmoor from our Wild Camp trip back in April
It's one of our smallest trips of the year (due to the nature of wild camping) but certainly a special one! This year travelling by train, the group had a great - and particularly environmentally conscious weekend of hiking and camping before the exam season crush !
Photos from the Facebook album, thanks all for sharing

FONT '24 🪨
Our annual trip to Fontainebleau; a week filled with bouldering, slacklining, baguette eating - and an unfortunate amount of hiding from the rain - though with some exploring round Paris and wriggling through rocks, spirits stayed high, we are mountaineers after all !
Photos from the Facebook album - thanks all for adding them :)

The Mountaineering Club is one of the most active clubs in the University, with activities to suit all abilities and skill levels! Whether your interest is walking, climbing, scrambling, orienteering, winter mountaineering, or simply enjoying the great outdoors, BUMC has something for you! Take a look at our photo galleries to get a taste of what we do.
Trips:
We run regular weekend and day trips throughout the year for walking, climbing, mountaineering and orienteering. We visit amazing locations all over the UK such as Snowdonia, the Peak District, Dartmoor, Portland… the list is endless! There are also trips to France during the Easter & Summer breaks and Scotland during ISB. You can read more about our previous trips here.
Climbing:
As well as trips, the club goes climbing at 5 different indoor walls and bouldering centres in Bristol on Wednesdays, Saturdays and evenings mid-week. We also run several teaching sessions to learn belaying and lead-climbing. In warmer weather, we can often be found climbing outdoors at local crags.
Walking:
As well as running walks on our weekend and day trips throughout the year, we also run “Sunday Walks” every fortnight. These are a relaxed walk in an area near to Bath that normally takes around 3 hours. They’re free and open to all students, staff and friends (you do not need to be a BUMC member to come along).
Orienteering:
As we develop orienteering within the club, we will do weekly training, with regular Sunday events at local fell's and forests and several weekend trips with other Universities. Focused on navigating whilst running, orienteering is a great activity for improving mountaineering skills and we look forward to welcoming beginner's and more experienced runners to BUMC.
Socials:
We meet at a different pub every Thursday for a relaxed evening social, whilst also having regular larger socials, including sober socials. (Don’t worry, we never put pressure on drinking alcohol, and there are always non-drinkers at our socials.)
BUCS & Competitions
BUCS & Competitions: We enter teams into BUCS for both climbing and orienteering who represent the uni at competitions. We also regularly enter local comps that are open to all skill levels.
