The BUMC is one of the biggest clubs in the University, so what is it we do?
As a mountaineering club, we are a combination of climbing, orienteering and walking. These are our main activities within the club, but we also enjoy running, trail running, scrambling, winter mountaineering and much more! Our activities suit all abilities and skill levels, whether you are an absolute beginner or seasoned pro.
Climbing - We enjoy a mixture of bouldering, lead and trad climbing :) We climb indoors every Wednesday afternoon and various other days of the week, including visits to crags further afield. Our trips are the highlight of the year, we travel as a club to places such as Fontainebleau, the Peak District, Portland & Eryri.
Orienteering - The club run regular orienteering sessions right from campus, in preparation for events or just for fun. Competitions include EOUC and BUCS!
Walking - We organise group walks around the local area every other Sunday morning, usually leaving from campus. We also run day and weekend trips to places such as the Brecons, Eryri, Dartmoor and other beautiful places.
Trips - The highlights of our calendar are always the trips…we go on a lot of them! We mainly stick to the UK and go as far as the Scottish highlands, but once a year we head into France to do some bouldering. Keep an eye out for the upcoming trips soon to be advertised on our page, including Freshers trip in the next few weeks…
Socials - We meet at a different pub every Thursday evening during semester for a relaxed social. There is never any pressure to drink, there are always non-drinkers at our socials as well as people who enjoy a pint.
Overall we aim to have fun adventures, be outside, take cool and silly pictures, and meet other like-minded people :)
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or drop us a DM. WE hope to see you soon!
