The final round of AWS (Astro-turf Winter Series) is next Sunday at A1 Track near Grantham. So pretty local for us. A few of us from the Nene are attending, get booked in if you fancy racing somewhere new in a relaxed race series.

Winter Series Round 3 / Winter Social

A massive thanks to everyone that came out in support of the Nene today. There was some of the usual faces, some old faces and some new faces too, which was so good to see.

Thanks to Darren Worth for running the meeting and organising the BBQ, thanks to Barry Mander for offering to be the chef for the hungry racers too!

As usual it was a relaxed affair with 2 heats of 1/8th Nitro buggy, 1 heat of eBuggy and 1 heat of mixed large scale racers.

There were some good battles across the board with positions changing on a regular basis. In eBuggy Leigh Bond managed to hold off the visiting drivers of Darren Warburton and Peter Van Tonder to take the overall win.

In the Nitro Buggy B final there was 1 bump up spot for grabs and it was a close battle between local drivers George Harrison, Paul Drewitt (Chewy) and Tristan Doleman. A mechanical issue for George meant an early retirement which left Tristan and Chewy to battle it out. A mistake 3 laps from the end allowed Chewy to take the bump up spot from Tristan but only 2 seconds separated them as they crossed the line.

In the Nitro A final it was a "tone to tone" win for Junior racer Jake Dell, but other local racers Tayler Letchford RC and Racing and Mark Higgins were close behind with Higgins unfortunately retiring early.
Chewy was very chuffed to make the podium following his bump up from the B final.

In the large scale mixed final Neil Young won in comfortable fashion with Stavros not breaking down for once and coming in second one lap behind. Damien Henning came in another lap behind in 3rd Position.

On behalf of the Nene Valley Off Road Model Car club can I wish all our members, new and old, and those who have visited the Nene over the last 12 months a wonderful festive season and hope you get the hop up bits you’ve been waiting for 😉 I would like to remind all our racers that the next winter series round is this Sunday, the 29th December, and I’ll be dropping into Butchers Block to pick up some meat, burgers, sausages and bacon for the BBQ which we will be firing up for some hot food at lunch time to thank all those who have helped throughout this past year in keeping the Nene going....

Just a heads up that you will need a packed lunch tomorrow for AWS as we unfortunately haven't got catering available. There's plenty of shops within a few minutes drive.

A big thanks to everyone that raced today we had a decent turn out considering the mixed weather conditions.

The track conditions were challenging for everyone with gentle throttle control being the key to a decent result!

Don't forget that this coming Sunday the Nene plays host to the second round the Nitro X Cross winter series. If you are thinking about joining the club and wish to witness a popular class of racing then come along this Sunday for the racing and Saturday afternoon to see some relaxed practicing ahead of the meeting. If you are coming to watch then entry is free and if you are looking for information on the club then reach out to any of the racers and ask them to point you in the direction of Darren, Dan or Leigh or any of our club members. The LOSR Committee are pleased to announce the provisional 2025 National Series Calendar.

2025 will see Large Scale National racing return to Notts and Derby Off Road (NDOR) with 8 rounds at 8 different tracks across the UK.

Following the members vote at the AGM in October, 2025 will see the return of the Northern and Southern regional championships that will run alongside the National Series. The Clubman class will no longer run from 2025.

The National series remains unchanged. Open to everyone and best 5 from 8 rounds to count.

The Regional Series will be best 3 from 4 rounds (with double points at the final championship round). The regional series is open to everyone except the 15 drivers who finished in the top 5 of each class in the National Series in 2024. Drivers may only enter either the Northern or Southern Series.

Round 1: 29th - 30th March 2025 - NDOR The Home of 1/8 and 1/10 Off Road
Round 2: 19th - 20th April 2025 - MMR Raceway
Round 3: 17th - 18th May 2025 - North Ings Raceway
Round 4: 14th - 15th June 2025 - Nene Valley Raceway Off Road Model Car Club
Round 5: 5th - 6th July 2025 - North West Nitro
LSOR European Championships: 21st - 26th July 2025 Fehring, Austria
Round 6: 16th - 17th August 2025 - SUSSEX RC CAR CLUB
Round 7: 13th - 14th September 2025 - Pickering RC Track
Round 8: 11th - 12th October 2025 North West Large Scale

Well done to everyone who braved the weather today. In between the late showers, we managed 4 rounds of qualifying and a 20 minute combined final, a good time was had by all.

1st place: Leigh Bond, Tekno
2nd place: Mark Higgins, WiRC
3rd: James Tee, WiRC.

Next up is our big maintenance weekend on 26th-27th October. Please give up a couple of hours of your time if you can.

Then we host Nitro X Cross on 10th November.
