12 Rounds with Brian Magee 🥊🥊🥊🥊🥊
Each day for the next few weeks I will have a new feature which will be 12 quick fire questions with our champions from the past. First up is former British, European and WBA world champion, Brian Magee 👍🏻
1. What age did you start boxing?
🥊 12 years of age
2. Which clubs did you represent?
🥊 St Agnes ABC from 12-15 and then Holy Trinity from 16 years old
3. What was the first title you ever won?
🥊 Can’t remember 1st amateur title was probably ulster or Antrim championship then all Irelands. As a pro it was the IBO Inter-continental.
4. Who is the best trainer you have had?
🥊 I can’t say just one, but every trainer I’ve had has added something either skills or knowledge, life lessons. I’ve respect for them all. The coaches I’ve had were Larry Graham, Billy McLean, Harry Hawkins, Michael Hawkins and Bernardo Checa
5. Who is the best opponent you have faced?
🥊 Mikkel Kessler
6. What was the best moment in your career?
🥊 Lots of best moments but winning the Muhammad Ali World Cup Gold and getting my medal from Ali himself was special.
7. Who is the hardest puncher you faced?
🥊 There were so many that hit hard like Carl froch, Robin Reid etc but when I qualified for the 1996 olympics I had to box the Romanian champion in European I can’t remember his name. He was one tough guy, the body shots made made me sore after that fight.
8. What was your favourite punch?
🥊 My favourite punch being a southpaw was actually a right handed right hook head, body or both.
9. What was the best part of being a boxer?
🥊 Hmm is there any 😂 ? it’s a tough life.
When I was amateur I loved having team mates. Especially going on trips with by buddy Damien kelly. As a Pro of course getting paid was the best 😂
10. What was the worst part of being a boxer?
🥊 Worst part is 100% making weight then having to fight.
11. Who is your favourite boxer of all time?
🥊 My favourite all time Boxer is Ali. He was the greatest after all, followed by Marvin hagler.
12. What is the best piece of advice you received?
🥊 Apart from keep ur hands up and your chin down it was both outside and in the ring, have a plan B if plan A doesn’t work out.
