I picked up a lovely American family from the Slieve Donard in Newcastle at the weekend to drive them to the Giant’s Causeway. I should’ve arrived a lot earlier just to take a walk around the grounds and suck up the beauty of the Mourne Mountains, the beach and to get a good nosey around the hotel. A lovely start to the day

🏰HED State Care Monuments are amongst the best-known historic landmarks and tourist destinations in Northern Ireland.

This small ruined church in its graveyard was the medieval parish church, probably abandoned in the 17th century. The ruin is simple and difficult to date but may be 13th century.

A wooden cross inside is a replica of an ancient timber termon cross, formerly north of the church, marking the boundary of church lands.

Nearby on the shore to the east is a famous holy well, traditionally associated with St Colman and a focus for pilgrims, especially in May and June.

Took a family on a 2 day ancestry tour of Maguire’s Bridge and Lisnaskea. Their family owned the beautiful Manor Garden Centre over 100 years ago, the manor was built in the 1700s. This is more than a garden centre, they sell everything from flowers and garden furniture to antiques and even peacocks. If you’re ever in the area look it up it’s definitely worth a visit and if you’re lucky the owner might let you have a look inside the house itself.
