I run Family History Courses in small, friendly groups in Derbyshire for those who would like to find out how to research their family tree but perhaps are a bit worried by the prospect of signing up to expensive websites without knowing what they are doing. My courses offer insights into how to be accurate in your research, how to save money and lots of fun whilst meeting others with a similar i

nterest. I am an experienced adult education tutor with over 10 years experience in family history research and am studying for an MA in Local and Family History.

On this day in 1922 Sir Ernest Shackleton, the British Antarctic explorer, died of a heart attack off South Georgia and at his wife's request he was buried there.

This was his fourth expedition, aimed at circumnavigating the Antarctic. He had described this voyage as the one remaining object of Antarctic journeying; the crossing of the continent from sea to sea, via the pole.
