A home grown marrow which I had been a saving for the girls for Christmas and home grown Brussel sprouts today. We had some with our Christmas dinner and they were delicious!
It won’t be long now before the hens can move back to the orchard. A new polytunnel has been erected by Glyn but needs the wire netting and cover to go on.

Thrilled to bits with my bargain lamp from eBay! This is a buffet bell table lamp with an amber glass ball near the bottom that acts as a paperweight to counter balance the height, important for stability as a buffet lamp has a small base so other items can be put around it. And the shade came with it!

Is there room for another?

Someone asked me the other day about keeping Runner ducks. ‘They don’t need a pond do they’ they said. Oh but they do, firstly to wash themselves properly, secondly, it’s a safe place to go if the fox visits, and thirdly, they love it! Mine wash themselves every day in the pond as do the geese and they actually spend most of the day swimming in it!

Really pleased with my four Christmas cakes this year. I made them with a new recipe and put orange juice in instead of brandy. I’ve just had a slice and it was delicious so I’m feeling pretty darn good about life today!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes, we have survived the storm without any loss of life thank goodness! However, the same can’t be said for the orchard polytunnel which is now in the field next door stuck on a tree. Fortunately the chicken houses were completely intact so the chickens were unharmed. The vegetable garden polytunnel lost its plastic cover, the smoke bush next to it lost several branches, branches blew off the hedge, the drive fence blew over and the sheep shelter blew over. We also lost most of the ridge tiles off the annex cottage and the hut’s boiler cover blew down. I’m just so relieved all my animals are ok. The hens are now in the veggie garden polytunnel with Fern and her babies in the greenhouse. As there is a hungry fox roaming the area I don’t trust them to be safe in the orchard without the extra security of the polytunnel at night. We had no electricity for 12 hours but we are now back to as normal as we can be and hoping that is it for the winter although I fear it may not be.
Anyway, I trust all is well with you and that you too survived Storm Darragh!
