If you're planning a trip to Holy Island, you can save yourself a load of bother by looking at the tide times online before you set off. We want you to enjoy the beauty of , but we want you to do it safely.

Holy Island’s first & only distillery! 🏝️

793 Spirits Co. is located on Holy Island, a tidal island off the Northumbrian coast. We are only accessible twice a day via a 3 mile causeway that gets flooded by the North Sea! 🌊

We are proud to be the first & only distillers on Holy Island, producing gin, vodka (& soon to be rum 🤫)

If you’re heading over to the island, pop in & see us at ‘Spirit & Soul’ for a few tasters or a G&T in our hidden bar! 🍸

Please remember to check the tide times first! 🫶🏼

Worth a visit to the island for this alone!

Did you know we have a liquor store on Holy Island? ✨

Back in the ‘Holy Island Gin’ days, we were only ever online or straight to trade. The first thing we wanted to accomplish as ‘793 Spirits’ was to create a space where people could visit, browse our products & have a natter about all things gin! 😍

It’s coming up to 2 years since we opened our distillery shop! 🤯

So, if you’re ever on Holy Island come find us tucked away on Fenkle Street, just off Market Square! Peruse our spirits range, goodies & come see what we have hidden behind our secret bookcase door 🤫

The bird hide perched on the edge of The Lough is a popular resting spot for those exploring the eastern side of Holy Island. Amidst the tranquil waters, a vibrant community of waterfowl thrives throughout the year, until wintertime when sparrowhawks scour the area and use it as their go-to hunting ground. 🦆🦢🦅

Black-headed gulls can be seen nestled among the diverse vegetation in and around The Lough which includes waving reeds, velvet-tipped reedmace, floating bogbean and yellow iris. 🌼

Inside visitors will find a log book, where rare sightings are recorded by eager birdwatchers, or for the novices, there are some displays by Natural England to learn the basics.

This tour includes a cruise around all the Farne Islands, viewing the sea birds on the cliff faces, visiting the Grey Seal colonies and also follows the route Grace Darling and her father took during their heroic rescue in 1838.

Over the past few weeks, we've been wrapping our heads around the new safety regulations that are soon coming into effect for self-catering accommodation.

The safety of our guests is really important to us, and while it was mind-boggling at times 🤯, we want you relax and enjoy your stay at Hedgehope whilst knowing you're as safe as can be.

Returning guests (with a beady eye 👀!) may notice we've upgraded a couple of things around the cottage to keep you safe during your stay 🏡

⛵️ Upturned boats on Holy Island ⛵️

If you close your eyes and imagine the Holy Island harbour, one of the sights you may recall are the upturned fishing boats dotted along the shoreline. These have been converted by the fishermen into sheds to provide storage for nets and tools, having been waterproofed with tar 🛠

But what you may not know, is they didn’t only reuse the boats to make clever use of the materials they had to hand, but apparently because local fishermen considered it a sin to send boats to the scrap yard.

To this day, they remain a quirky sight down at the harbour, where you can discover them for yourself the next time you visit Holy Island.

Delving into our archives, we've stumbled across some great Holy Island memories, all created because of our wonderful mother who instilled in us a love of Holy Island.

She was at her happiest when reading her books on Sandham Beach with the seals whistling and birds chirping in the background, whilst us kids were left to run feral across the beach 📚🦭🦅🏖🌊

Why not share your own mum memories of Holy Island in the comments 👇

Despite having its own micro-climate, there will always be the odd day on Holy Island where the rain and even snow makes an appearance. But fear not, this need not impact your holiday. There are plenty of things to do on Holy Island to keep everyone busy, whatever the weather!

Here's what we like to do in bad weather on Holy Island:

Morning:
☕️ Stay warm and grab a cuppa and cake at one of the cafes- 1st Class Food Holy Island, Chare Ends Cafe Holy Island or Pilgrims Coffee House and Roastery
⛪️ Explore the history of St Marys Church, Holy Island of Lindisfarne, U.K
🍷 Warm from within - taste the different flavours of mead at Lindisfarne Mead St Aidan's Winery. If mead isn't to your liking, there are plenty of other spirits and liquors to sample!

Lunchtime:
🍽 Either pop back to one of the cafes or head to The Ship, The Crown & Anchor or The Manor House Hotel

Afternoon:
🏰 Keep dry and catch the shuttle bus up to Lindisfarne Castle
🌱 As you head back towards the village, take shelter at the Window of Wild Lindisfarne to learn about the local flora and fauna
🛍 Once you're back in the village, it's time to hit the shops! There's the Lindisfarne Scriptorium, Fudge Shop, Celtic Crafts on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Holy Island Crafts, Impressions of Holy Island, 793 Spirits, English Heritage and National Trust.

Evening:
🍻 After a long day exploring the island, it's time for a well deserved tipple in one of the pubs, perhaps even treat yourself to a meal too!

03/03/2023

The island’s fishing fleet is under threat, which means the young families at the heart of the community and the tiny village school are also under threat.

Please do whatever you can to support the campaign and watch the video - it’s worth listening right until the end to hear the singing Vicar!

Help us avert the fishing crisis that could kill Holy Island's community
