Hideaway Cottage is just a short walk away from the Severn Valley Railway station in Bewdley. This is what you can expect when you take a trip on the SVR ♥️♥️🚂🚂.

**A Journey Back in Time on the Severn Valley Railway**

If you’ve ever wanted to step back in time and experience the golden age of rail travel, a trip on the Severn Valley Railway is as close as you’ll get to time travel. Nestled in the heart of England, this charming heritage line runs through the stunning Worcestershire and Shropshire countryside, offering a scenic journey aboard beautifully restored steam locomotives.

As the engine’s whistle echoes through the air and the train puffs its way down the tracks, you’re transported to a bygone era. The smell of coal smoke, the rhythmic clattering of the wheels, and the sight of vintage carriages evoke the days when steam was king. It’s a journey that celebrates history, nature, and the simple joy of travel.

The Severn Valley Railway isn’t just about the train—it’s about the experience. The stations themselves are lovingly restored to reflect the period, with traditional signal boxes, period signage, and even station tea rooms where you can indulge in a proper cup of tea and a slice of cake. Each stop along the way offers something unique: from the bustling town of Kidderminster to the picturesque riverside village of Arley, there’s history and beauty at every turn.

Whether you’re a history buff, a steam enthusiast, or simply someone who loves a good adventure, a trip on the Severn Valley Railway is an unforgettable experience. It’s not just a train ride—it’s a journey into the past, where time slows down, and the world outside the carriage windows seems a little less hectic. All aboard for a ride through history!

We started our 2025 walking challenge this week and chose card number 12 (out of 30). Great Witley is a lovely village about 20 minutes from Bewdley and it forms part of The Worcestershire Way, a 31 mile walking route across country from Malvern to Bewdley, maybe if you were feeling energetic you could walk along ‘the way’ from Great Witley to Bewdley (approximately 15 miles over beautiful rural footpaths)🤔🤔. Our route was a mere 4.75 miles this week but absolutely stunning and very atmospheric, as you can see from the photos 🥰.

I took little Luna to Hideaway Cottage for the first time yesterday to help me put the bins out. She is not allowed in the house as it is a pet free house but she admired it from outside 🏠🙂🐶. Bewdley in January: A Quiet Winter Gem

Nestled along the banks of the River Severn, Bewdley, Worcestershire, transforms into a tranquil winter escape in January. The town, renowned for its Georgian architecture and scenic views, takes on a peaceful charm once the hustle and bustle of the holiday season fades.

January in Bewdley means crisp mornings, with the frost clinging to the historic buildings and the mist rising off the river. It’s a time when the town feels almost serene, with fewer visitors around, allowing you to fully appreciate its beauty. The famous Bewdley Bridge, often dusted with snow, stands out as a picturesque focal point, while the nearby Wyre Forest invites those keen on winter walks to explore its frost-kissed trails.

The town’s local pubs and cafés provide the perfect refuge from the chill, offering warm drinks and hearty meals. Bewdley’s independent shops, often with post-holiday sales, give you the chance to browse for unique items or simply enjoy the slower pace of life.

Though quieter, January in Bewdley holds a certain magic. Whether you’re strolling along the riverside or seeking out a cosy corner in a local café, this winter month offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the charm and peace of one of Worcestershire’s hidden gems. You can book your stay at Hideaway Cottage via our website: hideawaycottagebewdley.co.uk, on Booking.com and on Airbnb 🥰🥰
