We are coming to the end of our first tour to Sardinia. Professor Christopher Smith and I have been exploring, with our guests, the many cultural imprints left on this island. From the Nuragic peoples to the Phoenician-Roman sites at Tharros and Nora, there has been much to discover. We also engaged in some fine Pisan-Romanesque architecture in wonderful churches and investigated the legacy of the Spanish Aragonese and the long rule of the House of Savoy. With terrific food and fine weather, Sardinia has been a joy to behold and to discover

We have come to the end of an extraordinary week of cultural explorations of Barbados. We have visited many private houses from the seventeenth century to Oliver Messel’s Barbadian creations in the twentieth. Wonderful food and hospitality at Cobblers Cove. In short, an unforgettable visit for all our guests who came with Juliet and I.

I today visited the marvellous exhibition dedicated to Antonello da Messina at Palazzo Reale, Milan. A dozen portraits and other works are very well displayed at this landmark show. We will be back in December to celebrate another fifteenth century artist, the universal genius of Leonardo Da Vinci in this anniversary year of his death in 1519.

During this busy month I’ve also finalized a tour we have long wanted to put together. This will be an Ile de France themed visit in 2020 to the chateaus around Paris to include Vaux de Vicomte and Chateau de Fontainebleau where we shall be based.

I have also just returned from a week exploring Albania, one of a number of new tours we shall introduce in 2020. Of the many interesting Illyrian, Roman and Ottoman sites, I would add that the Albanians are just delightful!

We are coming to the end of our busy 2018. Of the autumn tours we have led, I took a party to Trentino Alto-Adige, one of Italy’s loveliest regions and completely unspoilt with splendid works of art, stunning scenery and excellent food and wine

And just last week we had three glorious evenings at Verona’s Roman amphitheatre enjoying Verdi’s Aida and Nabucco. Our villa visits, private lunches and visits to Verona were an apt finale to the first half of his year’s programme on the continent.

Amsterdam Light Festival Perspective

Tom Duncan and Stephen Brook are in Amsterdam in preparation for a future tour. Just been on water cruise to see the Amsterdam Light Festival. There are some new perspectives to this years lights! Wonderful to see the city at night from the canal.

Roman Site at Jerash

Spent 5 days at the 2016 AITO - The Travel Specialists conference in Jordan last weekend. Wonderful people, fantastic sights and safe. Video is of Jerash, north of the capital Amman. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, it’s known for the ruins of the walled Greco-Roman settlement of Gerasa just outside the modern city. These include the 2nd-century Hadrian’s Arch, the Corinthian columns of the Temple of Artemis and the huge Forum’s oval colonnade. Why not join us in Spring 2018 for a 10 day tour!
