We pride ourselves on our cleanliness and we’re committed to following the ‘We’re good to go’ standards at our cottage. We follow the latest government guidelines and provide guests with hand soap, sanitizer and face masks in our welcome hamper (plus a few more enjoyable treats!). We are living in uncertain times and that’s why we are supporting the ‘enjoy summer safety’ campaign from VisitKent.com by recommending a range of safe places to enjoy when visiting our cottage:

Minnis Bay pub and restaurant
Lovely local place to eat and enjoy drinks with sea views and sunsets at your nearest local beach at Minnis. Park for free on the road or walk there (approx 20 mins across the fields from the cottage) You will need to book in advance for both drinks and food: https://www.theminnis.co.uk/book-a-table or call us on 01843 841844 to book (you need to go online for food bookings only). This place does get very busy as it’s a popular place to watch a sunset and enjoy a sea view.

Seabells Fish and chips
The best fish and chips, located on Birchington High street by the ‘big’ co-op
You can phone your order and collect/arrange delivery 01843 446466 - enjoy on the beach with a takeaway beer!

Mahi Tandoori
This is my fave Indian and located on the Birchington Square (round about by the church). You can collect or arrange delivery: http://mahitandoori.com/Mobile/

Quex adventure golf
Enjoy a fun game of crazy golf and there is a cafe with ice creams and coffee. You must book games online before you get there. It’s nearby to the cottage either drive or walk (10 mins away). Visit: https://quexadventuregolf.co.uk/

Quex is a beautiful estate with museum, gardens but is currently closed (check online as this may change) although you can visit the farmers market at Quex barn for local veggies, fruit, meat and fish. Visit https://www.quexbarn.com/

In Margate there are lots of interesting places to see and visit - it’s worth checking opening details for places like Turner Contemporary the art gallery:

http://www.margatecaves.co.uk/ and the beach and Margate Old Town is lovely for a stroll around the shops with lots of great places to eat. My favourite include Angela’s and Dory’s for local Fish to New Street Bistro for modern English or Mullins for a great Caribbean.

Cycle paths and walks
You can walk or cycle along the coastal paths around Thanet following the Viking coastal trail: https://explorekent.org/activities/viking-coastal-trail/ and if you fancy an adventure you could ride/walk to Reculver from Minnis and join the Crab and Winkle route going through Canterbury and up to Whitstable if you packed a picnic:

The lovely town of Whitstable is well worth a visit with its stony beaches, dreamy houses on the beach and good selection of boutique shops and places to eat. Try and get a table at Wheelers (very small and popular) or at the Whitstable Oyster Company http://whitstableoystercompany.com/ or buy fish and chips and grab a beer to enjoy on the beach.

For possible rainy days you could visit the arcades down on Margate seafront or the Shell Grotto or Margate caves as these are in door. There is also a great independent cinema in Westgate http://www.westgatecinema.co.uk/

Our lovely beach hut is ready and waiting! Sadly our beloved beach hut was destroyed in the winter storms and with the COVID-19 restrictions we weren’t sure if beach huts would even go up this year! But we are super grateful to be able to enjoy Minnis Bay and share the joy with our guests at the cottage. Check out little Sunny enjoying beach hut fun too!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, and with our cottage you get exclusive use of our beach hut at Minnis Bay, with its Blue flag beach which is perfect for swimming! (And dogs are welcome all year round in the marked dog friendly bays)
