Its the time of year when we highlight some of the best new additions to our printed resources including items for the Birmingham Collection, which chronicles the culture and history of the city; the Black & South Asian History Collection which records the histories of Britain’s Black and South Asian communities and the Map Collection https://theironroom.wordpress.com/2025/01/20/new-additions-2024/

We’ve recently completed our survey of the Black & South Asian History Collection. A total of 9,435 volumes were checked and of these, 6,484 were item modified on the public catalogue to show the correct locations in the Library of Birmingham

Tickets, please! The rather grand frontage of Snow Hill Station on Colmore Row taken in 1966. The station was closed six years later and demolished in 1977, only to reopen in 1987. Reference – Snow Hill Station 14

Continuing with our series of magazines - a cartoon from The Owl on 10 September 1886. Our holdings run from 1879 – 1911 and shouldn’t be confused with the magazine of the same name published in London in the 1860s. Ref: LF 08.2

Rhyme Time is returning at The Library of Birmingham! Tuesday sessions will continue from the 7th January 2025. Sessions on Monday will begin on the 27th January. First come, first served, so we advise arriving early!

Session 1️⃣ 11:10am-11:30am 🎟 Please collect your entry token at the main entrance - staff will be there to meet you!

Session 2️⃣ 11:40am-12pm 🎟 Please collect your entry token at the staff counter on the Lower Ground Floor

Stay and Play will be running afterwards as usual from 12-1pm, no token required!
