WHO AM I?

This project is aimed at young people (make, female or other), who have ever asked themselves that question.

It is a series of workshops using conversation, explorations our history, creative art & writing, poetry and spoken word to explore our ever-changing and somewhat fluid identity.

We’re targeting young people, because, let’s face it, in an ever-changing and oft-times confusing world, where racism, sexism, homophobia, agism and disablism remain unchecked, is it any wonder that our young people, especially those straddling some of those challenging intersectionality’s, are confused?

Well not any more.

As well as a team of amazing historians and broadcasters, like Dr Robert Beckford and Dr Joseph Yannielli, we will be working with a range of exciting artists to explore this fascinating subject.

The project launch is on Sunday 28th January 2pm-6pm at Birmingham Friends of the Earth, Warehouse café in Digbeth.

Join Birmingham Race Impact Group to learn more about the project, share conversation, food and drink with other young people as unique as you!

It’s been a most fantastic journey as we have supported 1000s of women and girls and created more leaders than any other women’s empowerment organisation in the city.

Understanding your Learning Style

When you know how you learn, when you learn and where you learn best you can absorb knowledge and information like a sponge. You can also ensure you do your jobs in the way that works for you, enabling you be much more productive but more so, happy and fulfilled. In addition, when you know how the people around you learn, you can communicate so much more effectively. This workshop is free to our Diamond Members but is £50 to non-members. 100 Women 100 Dreams: Supporting 100 women to reach their goals

Black women still – in 2023 – struggle to find strong black female role models. When we begin to rise in the workplace, we can still often be the “only one” in the room. And…
· Whist the gender pay gap is bad at 7.6%, for black women it’s 26% and Pakistani women 31%! (ONS).
· Black women and other women of colour had higher rates of job losses during and since the pandemic (ONS).
· We are the least likely to be in the UK’s top earners (0.1%) (LSE)
In Business…
· Only 0.63% of UK businesses are owned by black women.
· And although female entrepreneurship is on the rise, only 0.5% of us start-ups will access venture capital (VC) investment (FCDO).

BUT if women started and scaled their businesses at the same rate as men, up to £250billion of new value could be added to the UK economy.

In life…
· 54% of us do not have a retirement plan (Voice23)
· 42.9% BAME women say they are in serious debt.
· 29.3% will experience common mental health problems.

And yet when women of colour do better we:
· Spend more on our children’s education.
· Buy more from other black-owned businesses.
· Support our families and our extended families.
· Give more to charity.
And we add millions to the UK economy!

Our own research shows that:
· There is a sad lack of trust in current employability services
· 48% of black women said they felt demonised for not having employment and felt they were treated harshly at Job Centres (20% of these women were single mothers).

There just simply not enough places for women, let alone women of colour to get the support they need to take them to the top!
