Roundhouse Birmingham is a new heritage enterprise (and independent charity) that was created by Canal & River Trust and National Trust to find a new and sustainable purpose for one of Birmingham’s hidden gems, the Roundhouse. Facebook House Rules

We want our page to be a place where people can share how they feel about Roundhouse Birmingham and talk about their experiences in a fun envi

ronment. We welcome feedback – both positive and negative. These house rules aim to ensure everyone can enjoy themselves while they’re here. We ask you to be nice and polite to one another – you almost always are! - and respect each other’s views and comments. We ask all users to ensure your contributions are civil, polite, tasteful and suitable for all ages. We won't tolerate disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour, unlawful or objectionable content. This includes any material which might be defamatory, offensive, infringing, obscene, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, insulting, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, blasphemous, indecent or otherwise unlawful or objectionable. It also includes any material which is aggressive, argumentative or likely to be construed as bullying, and it includes spamming or repetition - in particular the posting of off-topic material in subject-specific threads or areas.

*Moderation policy* In general, we don’t moderate posts, except on the rare occasions - for example where someone has posted offensive, threatening or libellous content about named or identifiable individuals on our page. We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is totally out of character for us, our position is that any post containing a libellous accusations, should be removed. We’ll also remove any posts that in any way target individual teams or members of staff. We will not comment on our staff and volunteers in this way in public forums. If any correspondent has feedback to share about any individual members of staff or teams in the organisation, please get in touch with us directly. If an individual continues to post offensive, threatening or libellous content then we’ll be forced to block that person from the page. Similarly, if any individual repeatedly posts contributions of the nature noted above in the 'material' list, we'll again be forced to block that individual from the page (in this scenario, we will have previously warned the individual about their content). We won’t tolerate postings, content, or links that are racist, sexist or homophobic. We also don’t permit linking to or posting any content which endorses illegal activity. What a week (and a bit) Birmingham Heritage Week 2024 was! We have loved having you here to experience the Roundhouse slightly differently, with our programme of one-off tours and events last week.

You could have joined us on the sold out A Day Out on the Canal package tour, had some competitive fun on our Birmingham Bingo by Night tour, sketched some of Birmingham’s canals on an Art on the Water session or contributed had some fun with some free crafts! Whichever way, we are grateful to have had you this week.
We hope to welcome you back this Autumn for a tour of our curious building or Birmingham’s canal loops.

Did you know that the Roundhouse is an independent charity. Our aim is to make this beautiful old building self-sustaining by giving it a new purpose. When you buy a ticket for one of our tours, purchase something in our gift shop or attend one of our events, you’re directly helping to support the future of the Roundhouse, enabling our work with the local community and keeping this building open to all for free.

Fancy learning how to paint in the very recognisable roses and castles style? 🎨

Our friends at the Canal & River Trust have 2 great workshops planned as part of Birmingham Heritage Week this Sunday.

You’ll have a 3 hour workshop where you will get to make a placemat in the distinctive colourful canal folk art style which was used to decorate working narrowboats in the 19th century.

The final heritage working boat trip for the year is happening Saturday 7th September! Come for journey around Birmingham canal loops in an open top, 1930’s working boat. This is the perfect way to explore Birmingham by water.

This family friendly activity will take you to some hidden areas of out local waterways. Make a day of it, this tour takes place during Birmingham Heritage Week, where there is free arts and craft sessions happening.

Brand new, one-off tours for Birmingham Heritage Week. The stories of Brum from our wonderful volunteers!

Join Betty on her tour to experience first hand what life was like in Birmingham and Ladywood during the 1950s and 60s on this unique tour! Betty grew up by the Roundhouse and was raised in back-to-back housing and is a treasure trove of memories of the local area – in the From the Horse’s Mouth walking tour.

Or, join Chris to explore attitudes to life and death by exploring the role played by three key heritage sites: Roundhouse Birmingham, Birmingham’s Canals and The Coffin Works – in the Life & Death in Late Victorian Birmingham walking tour.

Last week, our courtyard was host to The Traveling Janes for the 40th Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival, and what a joyful afternoon it was! 💛

We welcomed just over 100 visitors to our courtyard, we had such a great afternoon in the sun with some outdoor music! We’ve loved being part of the Birmingham Jazz and Blues festival this year, and hope you enjoyed the music in our unique setting. 🎵 🎷

This years Roundhouse programme is live on our website. Coming soon to our cobbled courtyard and site, the 10th annual Birmingham Heritage Week, with tickets going on sale in early August.

Shining a light on Birmingham’s rich cultural and industrial history, explore some of the city’s buildings and outdoor spaces you wouldn't normally visit.
