Bespoke Orkney Tours

Bespoke Orkney Tours Orkney is stunning. The best possible way to explore all its treasures and heritage is in the company of a fully qualified guide.

My bespoke, private tours can be tailored to your interests, and will be filled with knowledge, insight and warmth. My name is Jane Cook (nee Clouston) and I am a qualified Green Badge Guide with the Scottish Tourist Guides Association. I work as a ‘step-on guide’, meaning that I will guide you in your own vehicle or hired vehicle, or lead you on a walking tour. Much of my working life has been sp

ent as a theologian and educationalist working with children, young adults, clergy and teachers. I thrive on imparting knowledge, sharing stories and encouraging insight. My ancestor, Hakon Klo, arrived in Orkney from Norway in 1141. He founded a community which still bears his name – Clouston in the parish of Stenness, and started a family which have spread across the world. I have the good fortune to live just three miles from where Hakon Klo settled in the Neolithic Heart of Orkney. I love my homeland and am passionate about sharing its history, beauty and heritage.

Memorial to HMS Hampshire / Lord Kitchener atop the cliffs at Marwick Head, Birsay. Another worthwhile site of interest. Not visited by the standard Cruise Ship Tours, but available in your Bespoke Orkney Tour.

In 2016 the people of Orkney raised funds to place a Memorial Wall around the tower of the Kitchener Memorial inscribed with the names of all those lost when HMS Hampshire sank in WW1 as well as those lost on HM Drifter Laurel Crown a few days later.

I've just enjoyed a very full day on South Ronaldsay with a delightful American family.
We covered wartime history, Scapa Flow, deserted islands, arts, crafts, tapestry, cliff top walks, the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age.
We identified dozens of wildflowers and birds, we spotted grey seals, and even had time for Orkney Ice Cream.
Our final stop was a guided tour of the dig at the Cairns Iron Age broch - utterly captivating.
