is only 6 miles from the Old Coach House. A lovely walk at any time of year but, right now, it is very special. A visit can usefully be combined with an onward visit to nearby in Murthly, a little further on to , or Blairgowrie's own on the way back.

Very cheering to see this new visitor, with a mate, to The Old Coach House this morning. We've been hearing them around the garden for a few weeks now but this is the first sighting, sat on a cupola normally occupied by jackdaws. The garden is getting very busy with birds now and the dawn chorus is very noisy though a little early!

A visit to today. Only 12 miles from , a beautiful setting on the Tay and some excellent options. We had a great lunch at the terrific , which was opening its riverside garden for the first time this year, and a coffee at the where Harvey fancied the shortbread after already being given several biscuits. No visit is complete without picking up a couple of treats from .

Back out doing jobs in the garden for the first time in what feels like a very long time. There's a lot to be getting on with. Always under the strictest monitoring.

Nestled on the banks of the River Ericht in the heart of Scotland, the historic Perthshire town of Blairgowrie and Rattray sits on either side of the River Ericht as it emerges from spectacular red sandstone gorges into the Vale of Strathmore.

‘Blair’, as it is known locally, boasts a fantastic mix of independent shops as well as cafes and restaurants. Just half an hour from both Perth and Dundee and a couple of hours away by car from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness, it is the perfect location for holidays, short breaks and days out.

is at Wellmeadow in the town centre, about a mile and a half from The Old Coach House. As the name suggests, it specialises in interesting and very well kept ales and it does this brilliantly. And it is currently being run by a group of volunteers who stepped in to save the place following the previous landlord's illness. It's really quite wonderful. For any visitors who enjoy a good pint, you'll find it here.

The start of the New Year has seen a few lovely clear, cold days in Perthshire. We very much enjoyed one of our regular visits to Queen's View, just over 30 miles from The Old Coach House, via Moulin Moor and Pitlochry. Wishing everyone many more days like this in 2024.

Wishing a merry and bright Christmas to our friends, neighbours, guests and the fine folk of Blairgowrie.
