After 15 years of successfully letting Bamff Old Brewhouse as self catering accommodation, we expanded five years ago to include Gate Lodge, a two bedroom cottage within yards of Britain's most spectacular beaver wetland, The Beaver Hideaway, a hide with a double bed for romantic nocturnal wildlife watching overlooking two beaver ponds; and two beautiful Mongolian yurts in the wooded area at the b

ack of the castle. Booking can be done through our website: www.bamff.co.uk

Bamff, a small estate on the edge of the Scottish highlands in east Perthshire, has been home to the Ramsay family since 1232. In the last thirty years, Paul and Louise Ramsay have managed the land with emphasis on ecological restoration; planting native woods, restoring wetlands and reintroducing beavers. The result is an extraordinary and stunning resurgence in nature: plants, birds, mammals, fish, amphibians, insects and fungi; attracting biologists, journalists, nature photographers, wildlife enthusiasts and tourists. We are now launching a new rewilding programme begun on Jan 1st 2020 with the removal of sheep from ten fields - aiming yo create 450 acres of wild land through conservation grazing.

The Exmoor ponies have been at Bamff Wildland now for one year. Eleven originally arrived, followed by six foals born at Bamff, and then two recent newcomers, bringing the total now to 19.
Their owner, Debbie Davy, is a leading researcher on the significance of their role in rewilding.

Her PhD presentation on the subject can be found here:

Today we welcomed Sienna and Primula, two beautiful Exmoor Mares.
They were dropped off near the old ruined horse mill, then guided down past Bamff House, to then be greeted by a majority of the resident herd in the Wildland.
Most pleased to greet them, of course, was a thrilled Peter Parker, our stallion, who did his best to be most courteous and charming.
Some galloping ensued, the Tamworth Pigs turned up, the Cattle looked on bemused, deer scrambled up a distant slope. Some other mares expressed a minor level of skepticism.
Soon after, the cacophony calmed and they both settled in, beginning what will hopefully be a happy and fulfilling phase of their lives.

A glistening wonderland along Bamff’s front drive. After nighttime temperatures of around -10 degrees, the winter sun blazes through the canopy onto the descending beaver dams below.

A walk around Bamff Wildland on a beautiful afternoon. Storm Darragh and the prior meltwater have caused only a small number of beaver dams to be partly breached, but they’ll be repaired swiftly, no doubt.
The wonderful Dundee conservation volunteers were here again, dealing with invasive non native Rhododendron, a group who have been coming to Bamff for 20 years now.
And new beaverland areas are growing ever more sculptural and geometrically impossible.
