Heath Cottage was built in 1997 and we have been running it as a holiday rental ever since. A bright and spacious property in a perfect location, Heath Cottage is especially popular with families. Away from the main road yet right in the centre of the village, the back garden leads directly into the splendid walks and bike trails of Deshar Woods. Shop, pub and restaurants are all within a 5 minute

stroll and the surrounding villages of Aviemore, Nethybridge and Carrbridge can be reached easily by car, bike or foot. Our own connections with the area go back to 1982 when Heather accompanied her folks (Mel and Letti) on a road trip up from Glasgow to view a guest house that was for sale in Boat of Garten. Attracted by the unusual name of the village as well as the opportunity for a complete change of lifestyle, they moved in to run Moorfield House Hotel and never looked back. Boat of Garten became a second home for us for the next 30 years: we were the ‘back up team’ running the hotel for short periods through the 80s, we got married in the village in October 1989, and our children spent their school summer holidays here. Knowing and loving this area as we do, it was an easy decision to move up permanently in 2015 and we now live just a mile from the village - so we're on hand when needed.

The backstory

Heath Cottage was built in 1997 and we have been running it as a holiday rental ever since. It’s a popular place, a bright and spacious property in a perfect location: set back off the main road yet right in the centre of the village, with a nature-filled back garden and a gate leading directly into the splendid walks and trails of Deshar Woods. Shop, pub and restaurants are all within a 5 minute stroll and the surrounding villages of Aviemore, Nethybridge and Carrbridge can be reached easily by car, bike or foot.

Many visitors return regularly - none more so than the Lambies who’ll be back for their 19th year in October 2019!

Our own connections with the area go back to the autumn of 1982 when Heather accompanied her folks (Mel and Letti) on a road trip up from Glasgow to see a guest house that was for sale in Boat of Garten. Heather’s parents were attracted by the unusual name of the village as well as the opportunity for a complete change of lifestyle. They took the plunge, moved in to Moorfield House Hotel in December and never looked back.

Boat of Garten became a second home for us - as the ‘back up team’ running the hotel every autumn through the 80s, getting married here in October 1989 and spending frequent weekends and holidays here over the last 30 years. When Mel and Letti, now retired, bought the adjoining cottage, we decided to purchase Heath Cottage and run it as a holiday rental. We were living in Strathaven at the time and so onsite caretakers were much appreciated.
