The Green Loch is not always green….
A coating of snow creates soft hues of greys and blues with just a tinge of green lurking in the background. Winter warmth in the colour palette despite the chilly weather.

Summer is shades of green and splashes of colour, but there’s something very special about Autumn and warm rusty shades of orange, red and brown contrasting with a beautiful blue sky.

One of our favourite photos from November 2021 of the steam train leaving Boat of Garten station. The snow and steam on this chilly day creating a beautifully atmospheric shot.

Autumn sunshine on the deck. It’s too chilly to eat out here but definitely worth wrapping up and coming outside with your coffee / gin and tonic.

Stormy skies at Loch Vaa, rain is coming but I’m still looking optimistically at those patches of blue..

Looking forward to magical winter days like this ……
Walking with the sun on your face, the fresh snow crisp under your feet and the air icy cold as you breathe.
And the most beautiful scenery in the world.

Landscape layers.
The sky may be cloudy but the landscape is still stunning as the soft hues of green and grey create a layered landscape that lasts for miles.

Lunch with a view like this. Only the sound of birds singing. A chilled glass of wine, and a peach and Parma ham salad. Heaven on earth.

Strathspey Railway are very proud to, once again, support Marie Curie and the amazing work they do, to care for and support people living with terminal illness.
Join us on Thursday 10th October, on our 12:45 service from Aviemore, for a Steam Train* journey with a light lunch, with all proceeds going towards Marie Curie.
*we always aim to deliver a steam hauled service, however on occasion, , due to operational issues, it may be necessary to substitute for a heritage diesel engine.

The magic of a steam train puffing past on a cold snowy day…….
Roe deer and young fawn in the Treehouse garden!
Walking back from An Lochan Uaine with a gentle breeze and the most beautiful views.
Come for a walk in the woods. It’s guaranteed to make you feel better. It might be sunny, it might be raining. You may not meet a single person, you may meet lots of people. But when you get back home, your mind will be clearer.

Capercaillie spotted recently.
( please note, this was taken from a distance, before turning back down the path, as these birds should not be approached, particularly at this time of the year.)
Sundays are for relaxing in front of a log fire.

Have you seen the latest series of The Traitors???
Opening shots of the first episode filmed at Strathspey Steam Railway station, Boat of Garten!
The Treehouse is a wonderfully distinctive self-catering lodge, situated in the village of Boat of Garten, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, near Aviemore. It is set in almost an acre of mature pine and birch woodland, and elevated to maximise the views of the Cairngorm Mountains and the renowned, award winning Boat of Garten Golf Course.
The awesome high level deck is the perfect vantage point for watching birds, red squirrels, and roe deer. It is also a great place for al fresco dining, or to view the trains on the Strathspey Steam railway.
The Treehouse is a relaxing and welcoming place, with those extra special touches, to make it more of a ‘home’ than a ‘house’. The spacious, open plan lounge has a great log burning fire, the kitchen is fully equipped, and there are 3 bedrooms, sleeping up to 7 guests. Pets are welcome.
The lodge is set amongst the trees, away from the road, and is not overlooked, yet is only a few minutes’ walk from the local shops and restaurants. It is on a side road, which leads directly on to cycle paths and woodland walks. There is a covered area for bikes, storage room inside for wet and muddy gear, and ample parking.
Boat of Garten is a peaceful Highland village set amongst heather clad hills and native woodland, adjacent to the River Spey, in the Cairngorm National Park. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the perfect place from which to explore the Highlands or simply unwind.
