An Eurica Moment!

I was pondering whether Scottish mountain weather operated within a narrower vertical band of air than eg the Alps or Himalaya?

Well I thought, since the air is generally cooler and hence more dense, you need less of it volume wise to create the approx 1000 mb pressure at sea level hence the atmosphere is thinner!

And then the penny dropped!

Of course it does, rising up though this denser air means the pressure drops more rapidly! This results in cooling and condensation of the moisture.

🌲 visit the Strathspey Wildlife Hide managed by Speyside Wildlife
🌲 walk on the RSPB Abernethy reserve with the opportunity to see Scottish Crossbill, Crested Tit and more
🌲 keep your eye out for ptarmigan and snow bunting when we head up Cairngorm

From the towering Ben Nevis to the rugged beauty of Glencoe, it’s a chance to explore classic Highland routes and take in spectacular mountain scenery. A rewarding challenge for experienced hillwalkers from Saturday the 10th of May.
