There are lots of lovely things to see and do nearby to our station. Visit our website for tickets and timetables www.strathspeyrailway.co.uk. Pick up a Boat of Garten guide with walking map at Aviemore Station.
You can break up your journey, perhaps travel the whole line to Broomhill, then get off at Boat of Garten and return to Aviemore on a later train (just check in at the the arrival station and let them know what time you plan to return, to ensure a seat is held for you).
What makes Boat of Garten a Destination Station?...
History - Boat of Garten owes its existence to the opening of the railway in 1863. Its station served as a junction for both the HR and the GNSR railway companies. Traffic was exchanged between the two lines until GNSR services were extended to Aviemore in the 1950s
Station - Boat of Garten is a picturesque Highland Station, untouched by time & bursting with nostalgia. Step back in time into our 1950's waiting room. Visit our ticket office/shop, with its stunning vintage counter. On Sundays visit our, volunteer run, model railway museum.
Railway Yard - As you cross the railway bridge a captivating sight awaits: a collection of carriages and wagons, bearing the marks of time, nestled in our railway yard, a nostalgic experience. Please view from the safety of the platform as there is no admittance for the public to the railways' stock yard.
Walks - There are a range of local walks to enjoy; whether you take a short local walk or choose to take on a trail, to Aviemore along the Speyside way, you will be treated to some stunning scenery. Routemaps and an interactive map available by visiting the links below.
Community Garden - Located opposite the Boat hotel entrance and originally the Station Master’s vegetable garden, it was created in 2002, with help from the BBC’s Beechgrove Garden, the railway, and from many volunteers and sponsors. A perfect spot to relax or enjoy a picnic.
Food and Drink - Directly behind our station is the Boat Hotel, offering a fine selection of drinks and lunch options. Afternoon tea is available by prior booking.
The Post Office up the road, stocks a selection of drinks, freshly filled rolls, cakes,
snacks and warm pastries, perfect for a picnic.
Wildlife - If you enjoy bird watching, there is a hide at Milton Loch on the northern edge of the village from which a wide variety of birds can be seen. The forest walker has a good chance of seeing a red squirrel. Keep a lookout for rabbits, hares and deer all roaming freely around here.
1896 Art Gallery - Just up the road from our station; visit this wonderful gallery, sharing the amazing landscape of Scotland through Scottish based art and photography, as well as the creative 3D work of artisans and craftmakers. Open Wednesday to Saturday 10-5pm.
