Itโs beginning to look a lot like Christmasโฆ ๐๐
The countdown to Christmas is always a time of great excitement and anticipation, and nowhere more so than in Santaโs very own homeland ๐
From the moment Lapland receives its first dusting of snow, an annual wintry transformation begins: the glistening snow deepens, the starry nights draw darker, and once-flowing rivers and streams are frozen to a standstill.
The heralding of the Festive season is crowned by the reappearance of the dancing Northern Lights overhead ๐
Christmas is coming, magic is in the air, and the excitement is palpable ๐
Of course, Santa would choose to make this his home โ this is โTrueโ Lapland, after all.
At the centre of True Lapland is Karesuando, a quaint little village in the far north of Finland โ far away from the mass-market resorts of Saariselka and Rovaniemi. Here, a timeless charm abounds, and curious traditions hold sway. An ideal place, then, to step into a winter adventure involving husky sleds, reindeer sleighs and snowmobiles. Donโt forget to make a visit to Santa on your trip โ youโve travelled a long way to see him! Butโฆ how does he remember your name?
What's included in the activities i hear you say..
โญ๏ธ Your 2, 3, or 4-night break begins with a direct flight from your local regional airport to Enontekio, in the far north of Finnish Lapland โ no need for lengthy waits or stressful connections at Helsinki! Your 3.5-hour flight includes inflight meals and 18kg of checked luggage per person.
โญ๏ธFollowing a transfer of approximately 50 minutes, you will arrive in the small village of Karesuando. Although remote and quaint, the village stretches over two countries, Finland and Sweden, and the border is formed by the frozen river which runs through the centre. Karesuando, then, is home to two time zones, two languages, and two currencies (but, to make things easier, your holiday will run on Finnish time and the currency in Finland is the Euro!)
โญ๏ธThe Davvi Arctic Lodge is situated on a hillside, overlooking Karesuado and the fells beyond. There are various types of accommodation available at the Lodge: hotel rooms and timber cabins for families, and apartment-style Fell Houses for larger families or groups. Your full-board stay includes all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), which are served buffet-style in the hotelโs main restaurant (drinks are available at the hotelโs bar and payable locally).

Staying at the Aurora House Delux
The deluxe room is perfect for two. This cosy, double room comes complete with modern features such as underfloor heating, a free standing bath, double sinks, a traditional Finnish sauna and a wood burning stove. The room is located in the grounds of the hotel and accessed via a lobby shared with just one other room.

Staying at the Aurora House Superior
The superior room offers spacious, contemporary design and is the largest room type available. Our favourite feature within this designer room is certainly the comfortable seating area that surrounds your own wood burning stove. Whilst the room is designed for two, additional beds can be added if required. Located in the grounds of the hotel, access is via a lobby shared with the deluxe room.

Staying at the Cabin
The semi-detached cabins are simple and cosy and all offer a porch area for storage and a private sauna. The cabin has an open-plan layout with either double or twin beds and a sofa bed. All cabins are located in the grounds of the hotel and are just a short walk from the main hotel building. Please note that if the cabins are filled to maximum occupancy levels, space will be limited.

Staying at Fell House
The Fell House offers both 2 and 3 bedroom units, with a separate lounge area, making it ideal for families or groups. Located approximately 150m from the main Davvi Arctic Lodge hotel building, it is connected by a purpose built footpath through the forest. Whilst a short walk this path is on an incline with steps and may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties.

Staying at The Hotel
The hotel rooms are set on two floors in a wing that extends from the main building, rooms are simply furnished and comfortable. All can accommodate an extra bed, usually a convertible chair and, depending on your party size, larger double rooms featuring a sofa bed with space for an extra chair bed are available in the downstairs of the hotel. Please note that if these larger double rooms are utitlised to their maximum occupancy, space and storage will be minimal.
