🥾 Climb to the top of Cornwall! (nearly)
Rough Tor (pronounced row like cow) is one of the best hikes on Bodmin Moor. Expect ancient stone circles, windswept granite outcrops, and a route that feels miles from civilisation. 🪨🌾

📍 Start at the Rough Tor car park (PL32 9QG)
👣 Cross moorland and a small stream
⛰️ Reach Cornwall’s second-highest point
🌄 Views across to Brown W***y and beyond

Not too long, not too steep — but it feels like a proper adventure.

So after months of planning and numerous packets of crayons used (eaten) we appear to have ourselves a nice, new sparkly website.
Massive thanks to Mark Dolan for his patience, understanding, vision and ability to decipher my gobbledegook into actual words and pictures !

Sorry if it wasn't as exciting as re-branding to Ho***rs (Boscastle) Tim Daw or even coffee ice-cream Paul Cook but it means a lot to us ! So yes Adam Benjaman we do have a website 👀🤣😂

Over the past 2½ years, in every spare moment between maintaining the iWalks, we've been working on a new app. We've called it Mystery Walks in Cornwall.

It is an outdoor equivalent of an escape room (solving puzzles) which unlock the directions of a self-guided mystery tour. It's a fun social activity to do with family or a friend.

Similar to an escape room, the puzzle difficulty level is aimed at adults. For each puzzle, there is a ladder of hints to make them solvable for a broad range of aptitudes (i.e. they start off hard-ish and the hints make them progressively easier). Each mystery contains over 40 puzzles.

The mysteries are based in Cornish towns/villages and typically take around 3 hours or a little bit longer if you want to do some sightseeing, stop for refreshments etc. NB there is NO TIME LIMIT (that's one thing that's very different from an escape room).

The retail price is £14.99. This is obviously more than the iWalks because (a) the mysteries take an absolutely colossal amount of work to produce and (b) Apple/Google mark up the price we charge (~£10) by 47%. The mystery walks still compare very favourably to other forms of entertainment (e.g. an escape room is typically £20-30 per person per hour, whereas the mystery walks work out at about ~£3 per person per hour of entertainment).

Mysteries are currently available for: Boscastle, Tintagel, Padstow, Perranporth, St Ives and Falmouth. There are some more on the way that we'll be releasing over the coming months.

The app is available from the app stores via the following links:
Apple: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/mystery-walks-in-cornwall/id6472197889
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.workingedge.mysterywalks

There's a summary of what each mystery includes here: https://www.iwalkcornwall.co.uk/mysteries/app/whats_included.html
… and some more information about the work that goes on behind the scenes in producing them here: https://www.iwalkcornwall.co.uk/mysteries/app/work_involved.html

Get that date in your diary! We'll be open again from Monday 25th March!

If that's all you want to know, you can stop here. If you're interested in why we're opening later this year, keep reading.

The longer we run The Good Stuff, and the more open conversations I am lucky enough to have with people running seasonal businesses like ours, the more I realise that seasonality is not a circumstance that I can wish away with positive thinking and good business practice.

As I ready the business for its fourth season, I acknowledge that our placement at the bottom of a beautiful and wild harbour is a huge blessing, and that it also creates some practical challenges around getting customers to choose to visit us when the weather is bad, it's dark outside, and the car park is a walk away.

When we first moved into the wonderful Harbour Light building, I truly thought that if we opened our doors through the winter months, we would make it work. I've learnt through experience that this isn't the case, and while I am hugely grateful to our customers who *do* support us in the winter months (thank you, thank you, thank you!) I have to be honest here and say that it makes no financial sense to do this, and sustaining this business, the staff it employs and its ethics in the long-term means it has to make financial sense.

The cafe feels best when it's buzzing: our staff have a better time, I am a better boss, our cashflow makes sense, we produce better service, better food, better ideas, and a better vibe. I always strive for openness around decisions like this, because I know many other business owners struggle with the same issues, and because I feel indebted to our supportive customers who find us, love us and lift us up when they come in.

I know some will feel disappointed that we aren't opening earlier, but I hope that if you are, you have read through this and can understand why I have chosen to make this change to our business.

As ever, thank you so much for supporting us – and I cannot WAIT to see you all at the end of March!

Love, Alice
