Are you feeling a little low due to the cold weather and dark nights? You’re not alone!

The third Monday in January is known nationally as Blue Monday, where the January blues reach a peak.

The Somerset Hotel, Llandudno – Water Update – Sunday 19th January 2025

We are pleased to confirm that water supply has now been restored to The Somerset Hotel.

As a result, the hotel will reopen on Monday 20th January, with all planned coach holidays for that day going ahead as scheduled.

We are sorry that we had to cut short previous holidays, however customer and staff well being will always be our top priority. I’m sure you can appreciate that we simply can’t operate a hotel safely without any water supply.

We would like to thank everyone affected for their understanding in a difficult situation, and we look forward to welcoming you all back soon.

Matthew Brown 31/3/69 - 8/1/25

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Brown, middle son of our late founder, Jeanne Wilson, and brother to Sam and myself.

Matt was an integral part of our company’s journey and involved from the very beginning at Daish’s Hotel, before going on to manage several other Daish’s hotels. He was well known and liked by many of our regular customers who travelled with us over the years.

Matt had also been fighting his own battle with cancer over the last few years and we are devastated by his loss, especially with his passing coming a little over a year since losing our beloved mother.

Our thoughts are with our nephews and niece, Ashley, Aaron, and Shannon who have lost their dad so soon after losing their nan, and also with Debbie and their grandchildren, all of whom he loved very much. He will also be greatly missed by his many friends but fondly remembered by all and everyone at Daish’s Holidays.

Somerset Hotel, Llandudno – Water Update

The Somerset Hotel in Llandudno remains without water having lost supply late this afternoon. This is following a burst water main at Bryn Cowlyd Water Treatment Works in Conwy.

Businesses and schools across Conwy have been forced to close and as many as 40,000 homes are now thought to be affected and currently without water.

Customers who arrived this afternoon are being looked after by our team who have sourced additional bottled water. We were still able to provide an evening meal tonight, and the bar is open with additional bottled drinks available and entertainment remains in place for everyone to enjoy.

Sadly, the latest update from Welsh Water at 5pm today (Thursday 16th Jan) was that the repair to the burst water main is taking longer than planned and once repaired, it could take up to 48 hours for water supplies to be restored.

As a result, we are left with no choice but to close the Somerset Hotel from Friday 17th January until water is restored (hopefully over the coming weekend). Coaches have been arranged for Friday morning to take our customers home early after the team have served everyone breakfast.

We are sorry to cut short everyone’s holiday and while this is not a decision that we take lightly, customer wellbeing is always our top priority.

We will be contacting everyone who has been affected in the coming days to advise them of their options, however please bear with us as our current priority is ensuring that everyone gets home safely.

At present we anticipate water being restored over the weekend and the hotel reopening to welcome arrivals on Monday 20th January as planned, however we will be closely monitoring the situation.

Thank you so much to Carol Stamps for her lovely review of her recent holiday to Llandudno.

“Bustling with people, lovely mix of shops, and plenty to do and visit. We were very lucky with the weather so took the last boat trip of the season around the great Orme, and then the bird sanctuary, seeing some young seals along the way. The hotel, the Somerset, was excellent. Rooms were spotless, food plentiful and always hot. The staff couldn’t do enough for you, as I have come to expect from Daish’s.”

Our Story

In between eating cake in the office we strive to provide great value holidays all year round and ensure that everyone has a great, relaxing time.

Having been founded in 1979 with the purchase of Daish’s Hotel in Shanklin we now have 9 hotels in 8 seaside resorts along the English South Coast and North Wales. 2018 also saw our first inland acquisition as we bought the County Hotel in Kendal. All our holidays offer a choice of self drive or coach inclusive holidays using our own fleet of luxury coaches.

Whether it’s a quiet getaway, family holiday or child free escape we have it all. With live entertainment every night our half board holidays are always superb value.
