It's a YES for the Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Accommodation BID!

Destination Management Board Chair, Andy Lennox, said the approval of ABID is an “historic moment for the towns”.

He said: “As a destination, and making sure that that destination is the best it can possibly be with the most eventful things that can happen, it's just wicked."

Rosie Radwell, Marsham Court Hotel and Chair of the Shadow ABID Board explained, “This is good news for the destination, and we are thrilled that the Accommodation Providers have voted in favour of the ABID. The additional funds raised will have a huge impact on the future of tourism in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. On behalf of the volunteer Shadow ABID Board, I would like to thank our fellow Accommodation Providers for recognising the power of partnership working and the necessity to act now. We are excited about the future and have already started to plan projects and events to enhance tourism in the area”.

BOURNEMOUTH CELEBRATES PURPLE FLAG SUCCESS!

Bournemouth has once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering a vibrant evening and night-time economy (ENTE) with its successful attainment of the Purple Flag accreditation in the latest round of assessments. This achievement underscores the town’s steadfast dedication to creating a safe, diverse, and inclusive environment for the last 14 years.

Purple Flag – similar to the Blue Flag for beaches – aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres between the hours of 5pm to 5am. This prestigious award highlights Bournemouth’s blend of entertainment, dining, and culture, all while ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and visitors in the evening and night time economy.

The partnership in Bournemouth has been commended for its strength and focus, serving as a driver that ignites enthusiasm and commitment towards enhancing the ENTE experience within the town. Recognised by assessors, initiatives such as the Street Pastors, Safe Bus, and the efforts to prevent violence against women and girls were celebrated for their contributions to community safety.

As one of the longest-standing Purple Flag areas globally, Bournemouth continues to lead by example, extending support to new applicants like Malta, who visited in 2023 to glean insights into best practices. With their support, Paceville in St. Julian’s is currently undergoing its application process, further solidifying Bournemouth’s reputation as a beacon of excellence in ENTE management.

Bournemouth joins 23 areas across the UK and Ireland in achieving either a full or interim renewal of the Purple Flag accreditation during this round.

In the face of ongoing challenges such as the cost of living crisis, Bournemouth’s Purple Flag status serves as a testament to its resilience. Beyond economic considerations, Purple Flag areas exemplify not only a dedication to vibrant and secure nightlife but also a commitment to nurturing strong and inclusive communities. Amid broader societal issues, Purple Flag emerges as an important instrument for cultivating thriving environments and fostering enduring partnerships.
