England's largest body of water, Lake Windermere, is a very popular place in the Lake District.

Lake Windermere is over 11 miles long and 1 mile wide at the widest part! 😯 There are also 19 islands dotted around. 🌳

Due to being the largest lake in England, Windermere is famous for boating and other watersports. ⛵

The name 'Windermere' comes from a blend of the Old Norse placename 'Vinandr' and an Old English word 'mere' meaning lake. 📜

It was formed in a glacial trough, running north-south after the ice retreated around 12,000 years ago! The Wonky Burrow 💜
