Storm Isha rolled in with fury and roared its presence. The sheep hunkered down, the goats hid in their hut and we prepared for a possible electric cut. Fortunately all was well this morning, electric still on and the only casualty was a tree blown down in our woods. 🌧🌬

Sadly we had to bid a fond farewell to Zeus as he headed to new pastures. He had struggled over the winter with his hooves on our wet ground and it became evident that he needed to be rehomed before this winter arrived. He has now been in his new home for a week and is settling in well.

Wally and Co. are full of busy now they are developing their tail & wing feathers. Our black chick has been named Midnight by one of our younger guests and we may have a Felix/ Felicity named by her older sibling.

02/08/2023

Wally Wrong End has made it! Chicks normally position themselves towards the fat end of the egg where the air sac is, in readiness for hatching. But not Wally, pipped at the narrow end which could have been disastrous. We waited for 24 hours or more fearing the worst but surprise, surprise this little chick was full of determination and a strong instinct to survive. After a long sleep Wally is now in eating mode and doing well. Well done Wally πŸ‘ πŸ₯°

This handsome young chap paid us a visit and took the opportunity to feed on the seed heads. Bullfinch are very colourful birds especially the vibrant colour of the males.

Sadly one of our girls passed away this week. Wilma was a very special hen, she was quite a character and often visited our guests. She was an ex battery chicken that arrived here 10 years ago with no feathers and a bit traumatised. She blossomed in to a friendly, chatty chicken with an inquisitive nature. She would always be the first to investigate what you were doing. We will miss Wilma pottering around.

The devastating aftermath of Storm Arwen has now finally been cleared. Each day we glimpsed a little more of the view we had 38 years ago. The skies now seem vast, the river can be seen meandering at the base of rolling moors and the light content has increased. It is truly stunning and a view we gladly look upon.

It's Friday and it's treat day for the goofy gang. Goats are browsers rather than grazers ( they prefer trees and shrubs rather than grass) and one of their favourites are christmas trees. It provides them with vitamins and acts as a natural dewormer. Willow the sheep of course thinks she is a goat πŸ˜‚ didn't want to be left out so is enjoying a little nibble too.

Another cold day, however the veg garden still shows signs of life. The first of this years garlic is poking through the snow and we still have cabbage & kale to eat during these winter months.
