Its teatime, spot the cheeky little Robin joining in.
Wally and Co. are full of busy now they are developing their tail & wing feathers. Our black chick has been named Midnight by one of our younger guests and we may have a Felix/ Felicity named by her older sibling.
Wally Wrong End has made it! Chicks normally position themselves towards the fat end of the egg where the air sac is, in readiness for hatching. But not Wally, pipped at the narrow end which could have been disastrous. We waited for 24 hours or more fearing the worst but surprise, surprise this little chick was full of determination and a strong instinct to survive. After a long sleep Wally is now in eating mode and doing well. Well done Wally π π₯°
Sadly one of our girls passed away this week. Wilma was a very special hen, she was quite a character and often visited our guests. She was an ex battery chicken that arrived here 10 years ago with no feathers and a bit traumatised. She blossomed in to a friendly, chatty chicken with an inquisitive nature. She would always be the first to investigate what you were doing. We will miss Wilma pottering around.
It's Friday and it's treat day for the goofy gang. Goats are browsers rather than grazers ( they prefer trees and shrubs rather than grass) and one of their favourites are christmas trees. It provides them with vitamins and acts as a natural dewormer. Willow the sheep of course thinks she is a goat π didn't want to be left out so is enjoying a little nibble too.
The invasion of the machines has begun...

This one had us giggling.
We came to The Bothy to prepare for the next guests and came upon a lovely surprise from our guests from Luxenbourg, our very own mini Hadrianβs Wall!
They had a wonderful time exploring our area of Northumberland. Greenhead Roman army and Vindolanda was visited which inspired our younger guests.
If you would like to come stay at The Bothy feel free to pop us a message we'd love to hear from you. For those wanting a remote getaway for beautiful walks or those wanting to explore the surrounding areas we cater to everyone.

It has been a busy couple of months. May was so cold and the planting of the veg patch was delayed. Then it was a rush to get everything in. The Bothy opened up and it's been lovely receiving guests again. We also have some new additions ππ₯π₯π₯
The girls enjoying the end of their Avian Flu lockdown.
